I'm going to be staying over Sunday night and was wondering how those of you with tire trailers secure them overnight when on the road. I was thinking of using a padlock to lock the saftey chain(s) to the hitch, and maybe locking a chain through one of the wheels and around the trailer axle. That sound sufficient?

Hi Gordon,
At Second Creek last year, I locked my trailer wheels to the trailer frame. However, the trailer was not secured to anything besides itself.
My concern - if someone wants a tire trailer that's not securely attached to something solid, 3-4 people can lift it into a truck.
Hope this is helpful,
Geremy

You could always use a chain and padlock to lock the trailer to a lightpost. I usually do that at the very least when I have to park the kart trailer overnight. Of course, a good pair of boltcutters will go through most any chain. You may also want to lock the tires to the trailer.

Thanks gentlemen. Locking it to something substantial sounds like a good idea, but your right if someone wants it bad enough they’ll get it. But hopefully it will be enough of a deterent in a well lit lot. And yes, I’ll definitely lock the wheels to the trailer and have two locks on the storage box. Wow, gonna need a whole separate key ring. :)
