Since this is really for teen drivers, they have first choice, but if attendance is low, we have been known to let others into the class.

Sign me up too. My wife will be recruiting at her work as most of her co-workers have age appropriate candidates for this program ;) Are there any fliers available that she could print out and distribute at work?

Which, to me, begs the question -- should we arrange something like this for our wives, significant others, 'friends', etc. -- at some point in the future?
Might this be something that fills an otherwise unrecognized need?
Might this be an opportunity to develop a larger group of SCCA drivers?
I'm reasonably sure I know of several 'wives'/'friends' who would welcome an opportunity to do this. I'm also sure that there are more than a few out there who might be interested in driving, but won't because: "Everyone will think I'm driving too slow -- I'd be embarassed!"
Just a thought, Scott

Not a bad thought, Scott, but you've got to look at the big picture.
The "policy" is that "adults" may attend Street Survival classes if the school is "under subscribed" (which unfortunately, they usually are). This is done to help make the class economically viable for the region hosting it. The decision to include adults is the event chairman's. There was one adult at our last school at PPIR, and that was fine, but this is billed as a Teen driving safety school. Having said that, I do know that there are some regions back east that conduct 1 or 2 "adult-only" sessions each year. These are usually held on the weekend day opposite the teen school. I would not be oppsed to trying something like that if there were a sufficient number of students (20 or more).
The question is, "How much time and effort is our volunteer base willing to expend to support the program?" You also have to take into account the fairly saturated event schedule we along the Front range enjoy. We currently conduct 4 schools each year. Adding another date would have a pretty big impact. We're lucky to have a (relatively small) number of dedicated enthusiactic volunteer coaches. Even with growth in our instructor cadre, it'd be difficult to add more events to our schedule, because we use Solo equipment to support the school, and that means we can only hold a school when there's no Solo event scheduled. I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm just saying there are a lot of things to consider.
Just a note about your last paragraph. The school is designed to teach car control and collision avoidance maneuvers to new drivers. It's not a school to teach you how to drive faster (that's what our autocrss schools are for!).

I understand the above to be the fact.
I'm one of your volunteers for the Eagle school and I, for one, would volunteer again to support something like I mentioned.
I also understand that we have limitations -- it just struck me that holding a 'street survival' course for some of our own (specifically our significant others) might be a really smart idea.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I get (shall we say) 'push-back' on occasion when I want to participate in our SOLO activities.
As I said, it was just a thought, Scott

I've tried to pitch this (very similar) idea last year (http://www.rmsolo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=6273&highlight=ladies) Last night, while talking with Lisa about the SS, she suggested she'd be interested in something like this as would her co-workers (teachers, so mostly other females). I've mentioned Wheels in Heels (http://www.wheelsinheels.com), and we've looked at their website. Good God! $250? That's what we've both thought. Sure, it's not terribly high priced for some, but Lisa's comment was "that's a half week's pay for us teachers..." Something more affordable and simpler (like the SS) would be more appealing. Maybe that could be redirected into a separate thread for new discussion (again) so we don't clutter up this thread.

Sure, flying around a course of cones or the track is exhilarating. Strapping in with a new teen driver, that's just crazy! How do I sign up? :-)
(Yes I am volunteering for the event)
+1 on a significant other/friends SS type event. A friend of mine was almost clobbered by a young driver who ran a red light (got the car next to her instead) and asked about emergency handling class for herself in her car.

Just a quick heads up that the 3rd is also the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure. Therefore, expect HEAVY traffic from 6am - 9am around the Pepsi Center and surrounding roads/highways.
Also since I have your attention, if you'd like to support a local racer who's wife is currently battling cancer, stop by the link below to donate and/or participate in the event...

6:00 PM is for those who want to eat dinner. The training will start at 7:00. We'd like as many people as possible to arrive for dinner since we won't have to pay for the room if 10 people order dinner, but it's not at all mandatory.
If you've never instructed before, please please, PLEASE try to make the training. It's not difficult, but much different than performance driving training. If you absolutely can't make the training session and still want to help, we can definitely use your help with event administration.
