I recently joined and will be at the Solo School on the 26th. Trying to identify the appropriate class for my participation on the 27th and registration forms, I am not quite sure about the correct class due to some mods. that were completed. All but one has been satisfied to place me in the ASP class. However, I Tubed my 2000 Corvette FRC with a Lingenfelter Tub Kit for the larger tires up to 345's. I do not always use the larger tires and have a set of stock size wheels. Since the car was tubed although I would be using the stock size wheels and tires for these events, do I need to be in some other class do to the tubing..... Any Ideas? Thanks in advance for the input....

The mini-tub puts 'Vettes into SSM because it allows for larger tires. Locally, I'm not sure anybody will care in ASP, especially if you run the "correct" sized tire, until you start beating them.

Both classes are fun so you should look ahead to what other mods you want to perform in the future, then pick a category based on that.

Have fun!

Chris; Thanks for the response.. This is where I get confused cause SSM Class requires a max tire width of 275 or less so that is what is stock. The size of the wheel wells (mod) should not cause a difference in class.... Am I missing something... I don't want to beat a dead horse or overly analytical by belaboring the point but what do you think? ....

Here's the rulebook, I'm confused as to where you're seeing this stuff.

SSM is a displacement to weight formula class. Tire size is unrestricted.

Tubbing the fenders is probably interpreted as modifying them, which isn't legal until SSM, but like Chris said, I don't imagine the ASP guys would mind locally. (Even if they do, there's a Viper that you could compete with in SSM.) You aren't even allow to roll the fender lip in stock classes.

Pg. 184 0f the 2010 Rule Book. Size only appears to matter for weight calculations as I look deeper into it... Sorry for the error in initial interpretation. I am a novice at this.... can you tell!! Thanks for the insight.....

Yup, but don't worry about it, we were all lost at one point ( I Know I certainly was)

Just wanted to make sure we were on the same page is all :)

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but tubbing the fenders isn't legal in SSM either. I think that puts you to a Mod class / maybe Prepared not sure. That being said, I don't think anyone is going to get too upset if you run it in SSM locally, especially since you were up front and let them know.

Assuming I ever get to be in town during another event, I know I wouldn't care.

Hope to see you out there having fun!

Chris, you are correct. I knew it was a big deal a few years back for Scotty White. In my mind I was thinking ASP, but it was really an SSM (SM2) issue. Thank you for the correction.

For the record, I liked the idea of tubbing in SSM, but wanted to make it allowable for everybody not just the vettes, and there just wasn't a good way to let everyone do it without opening a whole new can of worms. I think a miata with 315s would be a ton of fun once they got warm:D:eek:

There was a C5 Corvette a couple of years ago that had mini-tubs and ran ASP. He was nearly protested over them - it got a bit ugly. My advice is to find the appropriate class and run it. I think Chris is essentially right, that the locals really wouldn't care as a whole, but it is definitely safer to be classed appropriately in case someone does take offense. Protests really are ugly - for those involved and for those who have to enforce them.

To All.......

I certainly appreciate the input and guidance from everyone. I'm definitely out of stock due to the headers and the slotted and drilled rotors. It was suggested that these mods. would cause me to compete in ASP. The mini tubs minimally put me SSM from reading the rule book and the above comments( I think), so there I will try it out. Don't think I'll be beating any of the "old timers" though, due to my Novice status. Thanks Everyone...... Jim

Your welcome in SSM here! Just don't show up with 375's on the back unless they stick way out the fender!
