Overview

Roughly 100 drivers have participated in the Team Event in each of
its three years. 95 in 07, 100 in 08 and 99 in 09. For the 07 and 09
years we had 17 and 14 novice drivers participate. Didn't count for
the 08 year but would assume it to be about the same.

Team Generic won in '07 with Team SSHR winning the gold in '08 and '09.
(Team Generic didn't play in '08 or '09. :)

It would be great to get more novice drivers participating and more
drivers with experience to help mentor those drivers. I know a couple of
the team captains have organized team course walks and some have
social activities outside the event.

Any general comments might be posted in this thread, but if you wish to
comment on more specific aspects, such as involving novices,
scoring,... a new thread might be appropriate.

Remember that SSHR didn't run in 2007 either! :)

Well, SSHR was formed as a subsidiary of Apex Racing Group originally- and Apex does a lot with a group and gets along really well. I would say that the guys there are a lot of the reason I've been so into autocross for the last few years. They certainly made it easier to get into.

One thing that I'd like to point out to anyone considering team autocross, or recruiting for their team is that Novices are better for team autocross than anyone else. Team autocross scoring is based upon improvement, and nobody is going to improve as much as a novice will.

Beyond that, the key is to get good participation from your members. We've got enough friends dragged into autocross now that if we have a member who isn't attending events, we need that team spot for somebody else. The more people that attend an event, the more people you can pull scores from.

We do have a Novice only team, team n00b. I was on the team last year and its great being able to hang around with a bunch of other novice drivers yet have a few experienced drivers as captains. But yes that does only make up about 10 novice drivers LOL

it's what really got me hooked six years ago.

Anyone want to change the rules for this year?

I think it's working great for the teams that put some effort into it!

Plus, the trophies are cool. One of these days I'll get around to getting some photos of the new "2009 Champion" stickers that Hank made up for us.
