Without a passenger in the seat, the seat back will flop forward about 4 inches every time you jump on the brakes. Very annoying. So the mini bungee is my quick fix to hold the seat back still.
My guess is they made the seat with that amount of play because the release is on the back of the head rest, and would be hard to get to if the seat did not rotate forward a few inches. Under street driving and easy braking the seat won't flop forward, but under track driving conditions it flops around wildly.

OK Mark, here ya go... My barn find is a one owner 89 Civic DX Hatch with 78,458 original miles.
Car is unmolested (but I can fix that) and in almost perfect condition except for oxidized, peeling clear coat on the top surfaces. Dosen't even have as much as one little door ding! The motor and interior look like the day they left the showroom floor. The Owner's Manual and all records including gas recipts were in the glove box.
Feast your eyes on this little Hot Rod!!!

The big 2 story. The little shack is where the farmer lived for many years before they built the Sear's house.

I love the barn. I wish I had something way too big rather than almost too small for my cars, trucks & motorcycle.

it keeps the passenger seat back from flopping slightly backward/forward under hard acceleration/deceleration.
