I was wondering if the helmet requirements are expected to change for 2010?

2. Crash helmets approved by the Snell Foundation with Snell sticker 2000 or later Special Application (SA00), or by the SFI with a SFI Sticker 31.1a for open faced helmets and a SFI sticker 31.2a for closed faced. NOTE: Snell M rating is not allowed for Track Trials (Level 3) and Hillclimb (Level 4) events.

I am not sure when you can expect the official TTR from SCCA HQ, but I would expect some wording to reflect that helmets will need to be SA 2005 and SA 2010.

just my personal view, nothing official. Josh is on the TTAC, so he may chime in, with the correct rule.

I'd hold off buying that SA 2000 helmet on a special deal for now

Thanks Grant

I'm guessing that with a move to a minimum of SA2005 that that minimum will stay in place until 2015 (10yrs)? Some places have good deals on SA2005 models right now but I know the SA2010 stuff is starting to show up.

The minimum helmet requirements for PDX and Club Trials are the same as Solo.

The current SNELL standard plus the two previous standards.

That means that when the 2010 standard is issued, the 2005, and 2000 standards will required. But until that happens, 2005, 2000, and 1995 SNELL helmets are the requirement.

Hope that helps. Oh, and no changes to the helmet rules should be expected for the 2010 TTR.

Shane (and anyone else),
If you plan on running PDX/TT in 2010, get your annual tech inspection done ahead of time. On the bottom of this page is a list of shops that do them http://www.sccatimetrials.org/links.html. It makes tech at an event a snap. We just check your paperwork, put a sticker on the drivers side door jamb, one on the windshield and one on your helmet and you're good-to-go in 10 minutes.

Thanks Everyone.

HJC already has a Snell 2010 motorcycle street helmet available now, that is what prompted me to wonder about the 2010s for auto use.

The only thing on the M3 that won't pass inspection at this point are the rear brakes which are at 25%. I'll be replacing those later this winter.

Shane,

If you are looking for a great set of track pads which are kind to rotors for your M3, take a look at the Cobalt Friction XR2. I run their Spec VR pads (the predecessor) and have been for several years (same set). I have never killed a rotor and the pads seem to last forever.

seeing as how SA10's arent coming out till october 2010 ........If this is true (is it true?), then shouldn't a Snell M95 helmet be good until Oct 2010?

not sure if it is true or not, but

do you really want to trust your head to a helmet built to 15 year old standards? M standards at that?

cheap helmets for cheap heads
