I was out at the drag strip last night and I missed a shift from first to second. At the end of the run I couldn't shift into first gear. After shutting it off and shifting, I was able to get it into gear, but it didn't feel like it was a far of a throw on the shifter as it used to be. When I got it home (drove it all the way and 1st gear felt pretty notchy), I did the quick shift linkage alignment and that seems to have helped some, but it still doesn't feel quite right.

I am slowly resigning myself to having to tear into my tranny again (O2J). While I'm in there I thought I might as well look at redoing some of the gearing (primarily 1st and 2nd). I'm thinking about this because with my mods boost hits hard at about 3200 RPMs. I'm hoping to bring this down in the RPM band some because I spend most of my time on the autocross course in 2nd gear. Trying to pull out of a corner at 2400 RPM with no boost yet is tough. Current gearing looks like:

_1st___2nd___3rd___4th___5th___R&P_
3.300-1.944-1.308-1.029-0.837-3.938

So, do I want to got to shorter gears or taller gears to get better torque and power down lower?

So, do I have any options? I've searched and found plenty of info on 5th gear changes. I've also looked at some of the Quaife 6-speed conversion options, but I'm hoping for something a little cheaper. What would be a good choice for gear ratios to change to on 1st and 2nd?

Think I'll stick just to autocrossing from here on...

Any recommedations and thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ian
