Just started in PDX and depending on funding going to start autocrossing in the spring. Seeing as how Im going to be needing arm restraints for PDX any idea where I can get some cheap? Also how do you go about using a loaner helmet at autocross events? (waiting for SA'10s before I start looking for a helmet)

In the RMSolo program we have two "classes" of helmets available for use by competitors; loaners and rentals.
Loaner helmets are located in a large bin near the course start. As you drive up the grid line on your way to the start, you get out of the car, grab a helmet out of the bin and take your run (not so bad if your car has a standard three point seat belt, but troublesome if you're in a harness!). When you're back in grid, you need to immediately return the helmet to the bin so it can be used by other competitors. We have had events slowed down by folks not immediately returning their loaner helmets to the bin so that other drivers can use them (highly frowned upon!).
Rental helmets are available at check-in. It costs $10 to rent a helmet for the entire day. You must surrender your drivers' license at the time of rental, and it is returned to you when you return the helmet at the end of the event.
There are limited numbers of both types. If you want a rental, get to check-in early!

FYI-In both PDX/TT and SOLO we allow the current SA year and the previous 2 SA years. So right now a 2005, 2000 or 1995 is allowed. Once the 2010’s come out it will be 2010, 2005 & 2000. So a 2005 helmet will work for several more years. A good time to get a deal on a new 2005.
From the 2009 SOLO Rules...
4.3 DRIVER’S SAFETY EQUIPMENT
4.3.1 Helmets
Helmets meeting the following standards must be worn while on
course: All helmets meeting the current or two immediately preceding
Snell Foundation standards (SA, K, or M), or SFI standards
31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, or 41.2A are acceptable. Helmets meeting
British spec BS6658-85 type A/FR are also acceptable.
You can get arm restraints from I/O Port, Pegasus, SafeRacer, Jegs, Summit to name a few. Usually from $25-$30. Locally Checkpoint Racing is a good bet.
I like to use a carabineer to clip the ends into my harness's anti-sub strap. That way when I release my buckle, the restraints come out with me with no hassle. In an emergency that would be a good thing.

Thanks for that arnie and ya I know there good for ~15 years however with the huge improvments made between SA05 and SA10 Id rather wait for the 10's and spend a bit more (and get 5 more years out of it figuring it lasts that long) then get a cheap bargain. Saftey is the one thing I try not to skimp on (with the exception of arm restraints ;) )
