Good day,

Several folks have been working hard to figure out the best way to get everyone gridded in such a way that it easy for everyone. If you attended the last event, you noticed we marked the grid with cones and laminated numbers.

The above link is a document on gridf procedures. Note, that each car will need to be parked in the center of the grid and not at the nose of the grid. Reason why, is that this provides a path for the grid workers to walk without having to be in grid-course traffic. Also, the grid workers will be able to see the grid numbers and be more efficient with getting cars out.

Also note the traffic flow in grid and what direction you are supposed to park in, while in grid. There was confusion last event on traffic and which directions to park. NOTE, this document shows the finish on the west end. For east end finishes, the flow will be opposite.

Please review this document for we will expect the cars to be gridded in this fashion, and expect the traffic flow to flow in this manner. There will also be copies posted at the event, to remind people how they need to grid. If we all comply by this standard, it will make the heats run more efficiently for both timing and the grid workers.

Lastly, I would like to thank Lawrence Edwards for composing this document and taking the effort to make this work. I would like to also thank Grant Barclay and "Built by Bones" for creating the grid numbers for our region.

Lawrence is working on developing a plan to have a single lin grid that runs from east to west. Very similar to how national's grid works.

See you at the next event!

Since no cars may be moving while an FJR kart is moving, the FJRs will use the shortest route from the kart grid to the start as well as from the finish back to the kart grid.

This will minimize the time that all cars must not be moving.

The Youth Steward will work with the grid workers and Safety Stewards to ensure the FJRs safely and quickly move to and from the kart grid.

Hope this approach is agreeable. :)

Thanks Grant and Built by Bones for the new grid markers!

The only chance you have of getting everyone to follow these directions is to hand a copy of this to everyone at registration.

A great big THANK YOU to everyone working on this. Getting an efficient grid process will help both workers and driveres alike. It's this extra effort that makes the Colorado Region Solo2 program the best in the country (IMHO of course).

Thanks guys and gals,
Graeme

This is a big step forward: I love the "Can you draw me?" images of vehicles.

I have one caveat: Lawrence sent me this drawing last week, and I haven't raised it because I don't have a solution (and I hate that!). So I'm hoping the collective chiefs' mind can solve it.

The paddock is on the south side of grid, and the course, spectator areas and services are on the north. At our last event, there was no convenient way for specators to get from one to the other without going through grid.

That puts kids, dogs, bicycles, scooters and strollers in our hot grid, variously in violation of either the rulebook or our own common sense.

Of course, they could walk all the way around the grids, or walk through the inactive grid instead of the "hot" grid, but none of them have taken our Advanced Spectator Training class (I'll have a stern talk our Chief of Specators). :)

We talked about creating a corridor between grids for this purpose, but all my solutions have spectators crossing traffic to/from start/finish.

I hate raising issues for which I don't have a solution. Any clear thinking from more experienced hands?

Thanks to all who are pitching in on this project. Lawrence and Grant rock.

That is a difficult problem, Clay. The only thing I can come up with is to make the spectator/services area to the east of the start/grid or west of the finish/grid. How about an aisle between the a/b grids with a defined crosswalk to the spectator/services area?

As for getting visibility of the 'map' we could post it with the grid assignment sheets so when people check their grid assignments they can review it before they pull in to grid.

An idea from the Carmel Companies monthly newsletter in the apartment complex I used to live in...They'd have "Stock" Content on the front and back page, and "Custom" content inside on pages 2 and 3...

So, print a whole stack of Grid Maps...enough for several events...then, before each event, print the Course Maps for the day on the back of the pre-printed Grid Maps.
