This is more of a street car than an autox car, but perhaps someone here will know someone who might be interested.

The chassis has just over 107K miles, but the engine was fully rebuilt only about 8,000 miles ago. It was a rather expensive makeover involved JE forged pistons, HKS cams, Ferrea valvetrain, etc. (details below).

Close to $20K invested (not including original cost of car). Car is capable of well over 300 whp.

Car runs fine, still makes around 250-270 whp (ass-dyno estimate) and has just has a completely remanufactured (with a new Mitsubishi CHRA) turbo installed (Jan. 07). Engine does have issues: it consumes a lot of oil, and cylinder #3 has less than 100 psi of compression as tested 3/07. I'm suspecting rings are bad on #3.

Price: $8k OBO

SUSP./WHEELS: H&R springs, Tokico Illumina struts, TEIN adjustable camber pillow mounts (front only), rear camber adjuster bolts, McMaster Carr custom urethane motor mounts, 17" x 7.5" Rota Sub-zero (RH CP-035 replica wheels), Duplicolor graphite, Kuhmo all-season tires

BRAKES: '93-up MR2T upgraded calipers and rotors, calipers completely rebuilt with all new OEM parts and powdercoated blue, Goodridge S/S lines, Porterfield R4-S pads, Ate Superblue fluid

ENGINE: Greddy TD06 turbo/downpipe upgrade with custom -3 S/S oil feed line & high-temp pushlock oil return line, upgraded internal wastegate actuator by TEC, Greddy IC w/ dual 7.5" SPAL fans, fully build engine @ 99,000 miles by Greeley Automotive Machine, knife-edged and fully balanced crank, headwork, short block assembly, etc); new OEM seal kit, timing belt, tensioner, starter gear, all new hoses, etc. installed during teardown of course, JE 8.5:1 C/R .020" pistons with Swain Gold Coat and PolyMoly ceramic coatings ($700 on pistons alone), HKS 264 intake and exhasust cams, Fidanza cam gears, Fidanza aluminum flywheel, Unorthodox Racing underdrive crank pulley, Ferrea valvetrain (1mm +, magnesium retainers, dual valvesprings (good for 10,200 rpm, $630), ported head, knife-edged and fully balanced crank, ARP fasteners (head studs, main studs, rod bolts, flywheel bolts), OEM Toyota Supra 550 injectors and fuel pump (injectors cleaned and balanced twice by RC Engineering), custom dual-feed fuel rail with -6 S/S feed line, Stant 160 degree thermostat, custom ¼” phenolic IM and TB spacers, portmatched to TVIS, ATS billet throttle body inlet, SMC water injection (upgraded in April 2006 to external pump and pressure gauge), G-force ECU, Apexi AVC-R, S-AFC, & GT spec exhaust, TwosRus allen head valve cover bolt kit, Breeze constant torque clamps and silicone couplers and reducer hoses from turbohoses.com and Road Race Engineering (installed March 2006, $157 worth of parts), new battery and reman alternator, lifetime replacement warranty, installed August 2006, $232)

AUDIO: Pioneer Premier DEH-P440 headunit, rear custom plate speakers

EXT.: '93-up front lip, '94-up taillights and center trim, new lock cylinder converted to original key, shaved Toyota logos, filled license plate holes in front bumper cover, 15% tint, monochromatic trim molding, PIAA 910 lamps in OEM locations

Just wondering if you could answer a few questions for me:

What is the weight distribution?
Average miles per gallon?
What horsepower and torque the engine is capable of?
What is the recommended rev limit?
Where are you located?
How much is it lowered?
Can I see some interior photos?

if you could answer those, that would be great.

thanks,

bryan

ANSWERS:

With driver, the weight distribution is about 42F/58R.

Gas mileage on myMR2 is typically around 20-24 mpg, but when I drive this car, I typically get on it once in a while, so I'm sure it's capable of much better mileage if you stay out of boost.

There is a dyno image provided which proves it can exceed 330 whp and 300 wtq (SAE corrected).

The valvetrain has been upgraded to Ferrea components at a great cost, and it's supposed to be good for 10,000 rpm; however, the current ECU limits RPM to under 8,000.

I am located in Longmont. The car is as well.

The car is on H&R Sport springs which lower the car approximately 1.3" from stock. The front lip is an OEM urethane part; it is not low enough to cause constant scraping. The spring rates are 230-260lb/in. progressive in the front, and 235lb/in. linear in the rear.

All of the interior pictures you would want are in my public photobucket.com account. I've posted a huge number of pictures documenting nearly everything I’ve done to this car:

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v634/SW20MR2/

The most recent pictures are under the sub-album “MR2 for sale pics April 06” There are a LOT of pictures – there are multiple pages in every album. I've put a few of the interior pics in this thread.

NOTE: As of last week, I've pulled the Mitsubishi TD06-20G turbocharger to have it rebuilt. My MR2 is currently unable to move under its own power, so any test-drives will have to wait. In any case, I'm now expecting to keep the car through the winter and then renew my efforts to sell it in early spring or summer of 2007 . . . unless somebody REALLY wants it this winter, and has the cash to prove it.

Wanna trade for a '99 Volvo S70 AWD?

nope, but if anyone has a silver or black '04 or '05 Subaru Forester 2.5XT with a manual tranny for sale, I'd be VERY INTERESTED.

Thanks a lot man. I am looking to get something sometime between christmas and the end of march. It sounds like a really sweet ride.

Also, what is the max boost pressure?
What is the estimated 0-60 time?
What is the estimated top speed?

Thanks again,
Bryan

I have never run higher than about 1.5 kg/cm (just over 21 psi). That's at the drag strip and dyno only - 17-18 psi is enough for the street. It is my opinion that with the forged pistons, ceramic coated tops, lower C/R (only 8.5:1), HKS cams, and water injection, the engine is perfectly safe at 20 psi on 91 octane pump gas.

However, higher boost tends to reduce turbo life expectancy, and I'm not sure how much abuse the OEM Toyota head gasket can sustain long-term. Others in the modified MR2 community have claimed to have run over 20 psi on OEM HGs longterm without problems, but I didn't want to risk it.

O-60 mph is in the high 4's as documented by some G-Tech runs I did a few years ago. If you take a look at 1/4 times/0-60 mph times posted by car magazines for non-AWD cars, you'll see that high 4's is about right for a car that can run low 13-second 1320 times.

I have no idea what the top speed is. I've actually never pushed it hard in 5th gear at all, and I doubt I've ever gone over 120 mph in it. Too paranoid about The Man.

Oh yea, The Man, I hear you, but thanks again. I'll let you know what happens for christmas. If nothing, then I'll let you know by the end of march.

As of last week (107,180 miles), rebuilt turbo with a brand-new Mitsubishi CHRA has been re-installed. Gpopshop.com did the work; they also ported and polished the turbine side housing for me. I've also installed a custom hardpipe oil drain line (hoses tend to get hard from extreme heat, then crack and fail), plus solid brass shifter bushings and an extended clutch slave pushrod from speed-source.net.

Another $874 in parts.

No worries . . . although, if I were you, I would have pcked up the car shown in your avatar over either a WRX or an MR2. :p

As described in the first post, I am open to any serious offer on the car.
