First, I'd like to say thanks for setting up the new grid numbers on the cones, they worked pretty well I'd say.

And second, a question: Was it just me or did everyone park the wrong way? Don't you want to enter on the side if your grid space the numbers are facing so you can actually see your grid number?

Heh, I noticed that too. Maybe a quick chat between grid and Mr. Pickles concerning the Start location is in order? I dunno, they did look vastly better than the chalked numbers we've grown to tolerate...Nice suggestion.

Very Very nice... and probably a LOT faster to set up in the morning, too. Maybe not so fast to tear down at the end of the day, but still... :)

I guess the next step would be to take the time to dedicate a certain stack(s) of cones in the truck as "Grid Cones", and stencil them with numbers (vertically) in black paint, so the papers that are clipped to them won't (can't) ever blow away?

and yes, if that would be acceptable as my work assignment at the next few events I'm at, I *would* be willing to get the stencils and paint, and put in some more time each event sitting on the ground, spraying numbers on cones... :)

(First rule of a volunteer organization - Say YES!...right?)

Thank you to Built-By-Bones (Grant and Carol Barclay) for making and providing the grid number sheets, complete with lamination and cone clips.

Well done!

According to the grid map that was posted (yet another very good idea) we parked correctly. It's just one of those things that will be worked out as we use it. They'll probably face the other direction next time. Grid was awesome, great job Lawrence, Anne and all of the workers as well as thanks to Grant and Carol.

A paraphrased conversation I had with Lawrence Edwards Sunday morning follows:

A: "Hey Lawrence, aren't the cones backwards?

L: Nope.

A: "Well, why are they pointed in that direction??"

L: "Because the grid workers need to see the numbers."

A: "But the drivers need to see them too!"

L: Well, maybe we should get some of those green cones with numbers on both sides then.

I will have rev 1 Ready for next event. Both grid worker & driver will see numbers using the "Bones" numbers.

A new grid layout sheet will also happen. Might even get posted here.

I want to congratulate who came out with the idea of the grid numbers. It was a very interesting way to keep things organized. BUT!
Now it's time for my 2 cents:

As you have noticed during the many years of local events, when it's time to run, 1/3 of grid spots are empty and dual driver cars are scattered all over.
So, how about forgetting about grid numbers and as an example, assign all , 1st run single driver cars to "Grid A-1" and dual driver cars to "Grid A-2"
And 2nd run Single car driver cars to " Grid B-1" and Dual to "Grid B-2" .
What would happen is that cars would lign up more evengly and it would be really easy to deal with dual driver cars.

In the 6 years that I have been racing, I have had the opportunity to run in many different regions, and I only here I found Assigned grid numbers. I found that what we do here makes the grid workers jobs more difficult, as a matter of fact, in other regions, they only need 1 grid worker.

So, how about considering this? How about trying it for an event?

That's been discussed before (and even done a time or two in various fashions!), but the 2 driver cars don't want to be alienated and removed from the rest of their class.
It might make things a bit smoother, but I think it's worth working around them to allow them to hang out with their class buddies.

Thanks to Grant for getting us set up with the new numbers.

It sounds like we'll have our kinks worked out by the next event :)
