This is for a friend of a friend... he will be there this weekend currently registered in HS but that will need to be changed once he gets there!

quote from him... I have no other info on it

"It's a 1960 Beetle. The body looks stock, but it has a weld-in

rollcage, lowered, stiffened suspention, aftermarket front anti-roll

bar, and wider tan stock front and rear tires but I don't remember the

size right now. Most of the interior is still intact, including door

pannels and front and rear seats. The engine is still vw-based, but

it's very modified. The displacement is 1904 cc's. It's bored 5 mm

over stock and the stroke is 5 mm longer than stock. It's got a cam

profile slightly more radical than stock but not increadably

noticable. It's got a custom intake manifold and a custom tuned length

header. If there's anything else of inportance I'm forgetting just let

me know, thanks for helping me out"

Don't quote me on this ;) , but I think it is SM.

If the motor displacement (stroke and bore) were still stock and it didn't have a performance cam, it would be FSP.

OSP or XP are also options. I think there is another *P class, but I'm not sure what it is. You are the pro on that right? :D

lol... pro.... I didn't even know what *P class I was 'sposed to be in

But yeah I was thinking XP... because when my friend took a look at it he said something about the bore being too big for SM.

Poor guy is new though... and we're trying not to scare him off. Think anyone would mind him running FSP and see how he does? The other guys there are 'veterans' so I'm thinking he won't be taking them down lol.

I vote SM as well.

SM - Unlimited engine & suspension more or less...

Roll Cages are allowed per SCCA rules in all cars as I read it. Not class specific. (3.3.2 Roll Bars - Roll bars or roll cages are strongly recommended in all cars.)

Stick with a class he's legal in.

My friend will be the one helping him out at the table when he gets there... so I'll let him know.

General consensus SM?

From a newcomer's perspective, the time difference between FSP and XP is negligible - XP might be 2-4 seconds quicker than FSP, FSP will be....8? 10? More? seconds faster than him.

Almost every newcomer to this game can find examples of "not right" - when I started, it was D Stock Neons.

Those things were FAST! Oh my goodness.

(but they had race tires, which, in my mind, made it right)

In reality, I just sucked. A lot. Just like EVERYONE else. I mean, if a kid grew up racing karts, they'd maybe do OK - but they'd STILL have to learn how to see the path through the sea of cones. EVERYONE blows at this at first. He should run the class he's legal in - or at least CLOSE to legal. 5mm overbore? 5mm extra stroke? Cam?

SP allows 1mm overbore, no change to stroke, stock cams, etc.

An early Bug could be (IMHO) a very good FSP car - they're light, the engine is closer to the right place than most cars, etc etc etc. Yet another FSP fecescrate I'd like to build. Someday.

Anyway - no one is trying to scare him away, hopefully he does not take it that way. Just ensure that he knows that HS cars are going to beat him, but he'll get faster as time goes on, and most importantly, have fun - don't bother telling him that 8 of the 10 seconds that he's missing are simply a maladjusted wheel-nut. Let him have a good time first, he'll learn (and likely get sucked into it...).

Cool car choice. I hope to see it!

I'm pretty excited to see it as well... we've been talking about whether or not he'll surprise the hell out of us
