Below is a link to the national numbering rules that every driver sees when they register for an event. During the winter series tech has let some sloppy numbering jobs pass. Now that we are running for points, identification of vehicles by corner workers and Timing and Scoring is essential. Please review the national and local rules and be sure your car complies when it pulls into grid for inspection.

If you make your own numbers pay close attention to the height and stroke of the number. If you are making your magnetic numbers or having them made, use the kit for making your own numbers as a guide for sizing and you will never go wrong. If you are making paper numbers, use the kit to make your own numbers on paper and put them on your car at the event. Here is the link to the numbering kit:

You’ll use a lot less masking tape if you use paper numbers rather than making your numbers out of tape. If you do make your numbers out of masking tape, don’t expect that one strip of tape will make a good number. Refer to the rules link on the required dimensions of the numbers. If your car is black, red, or silver do not use blue masking tape to number your car because it lacks the necessary contrast for easy identification. Two driver cars must have all identification in the same font and color per the numbering rules. You will not be permitted to slap a masking tape “1” in front of your magnetic numbers for the second driver.

Finally, just because your numbers passed inspection in a previous event does not mean they meet the criteria listed above. It is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that the car meets all of the safety and identification requirements for each event. If your car fails to meet any of the requirements Tech will discuss with you what you need to do to resolve the issue. If you are not at your car when we inspect it we will leave a card with the deficiencies that need to be resolved before you will receive a tech sticker and be permitted to run. If there are not numbers on your car when we inspect it, you will not get a sticker until we see the numbers on the car. Tech has a limited amount of paper numbers for those people who have numbering emergencies. Due to the amount of tape used, Tech will no longer supply masking tape to drivers trying to create masking tape numbers. Tech and Timing & Scoring vigorously discourage the use of masking tape numbers.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or problems regarding Tech; I’d be happy to help.

Tom,

Locally, will having class letters the same height as the numbers be accepted?

Thanks!

I'm afraid not, Ian. The difference in height between the number and class makes it easier and faster for corner workers to correctly identify the car.

If your worried about getting something quickly, I'd suggest calling or emailing Annie with Sign Edge. I sent her an email on a Sunday and had the stuff in my mail box on the next Tuesday!!! Can't beat that :)

Have the actual PDF files (and the numbers and class lettering contained within) changed in the last 30 days?

Jonathon,

None of the numbers have changed in a long time.

Excellent...

By some fluke of a good taping job combined with a lack of precipitation, my PDF numbers are still on the MR2 from Winter #4... *LOL*
