Hum... you need to find the list of registered numbers, but I can't find it!
(edit) here it is:

Click on the registration tab over there <----, then "car registry", then scroll down to the bottom of the page, there's a link to the reserved numbers master list. Be nice and don't take #33 please! I usually run X and only use 33 FSP for divisionals and Tours and such, but if those are the only numbers you have, I'll be sad :( . Have fun in FSP!!!

(edit) They don't call him Fast Eddie for nuthin', Ed beat me to it, and gave a more useful answer to boot! I'll shut up now...

Thanks, I already know my car can't beat the 'rocco yet though.

Don't give up, though - you're starting with a much better base than a truck!

Yes, and hopefully my carburetor kit comes before the event so I can tune it.

Eh, the car's fast, but the dingbat that drives it isn't as consistent as he'd like to be. You never know.

Does anyone know if there are any local shops to get magnetic numbers? Or how to do it on my own? I've got an entirely metal car so that shouldn't be a problem.

Try Signedge. annie"at"signedge.com, www.signedge.com. (http://www.signedge.com) I don't want to speak for her, but she will sometimes deliver. She's in Nederland, so it's not a big deal to ship, either. She does excellent work! She's also run Solo, so she knows what works.

Go to Home Depot, or Lowe's and get Magnetic Vent Covers (set of 3 in one bag)
Then go to Hobby Lobby or any craft store and in the model car section, they have actual car paints (3 oz can is all you will need). Pick your color. (Metallic Red looks great!)
Then print out the numbers and letters you need, from this site, trace, and cut out.
Apply paint to the white 'paintable' side and Viola! $9.00 later, you have a great set that looks professional in under 2 hours
It comes in handy to be crafty.

It is even cheaper to not paint them if the standard white is enough contrast for your car ;) Also the magnetic vent covers are great for turning stickers into magnets for your car (ie for divisionals, Nationals, etc where certain stickers are required). Especially if your autoX car is also your DD and you don't want to sticker it up.

Yes, magnetics are easy to make and allow going from street to race mode a snap. Be sure to remove them as soon as you're done running though. I forgot a few times and trailered my car home all stickered up and found that they had picked up a lot of brake dust and once they got wet, made some really ugly stains on my paint. It was like they drove the rusty powder into the paint. I tried various rubbing compounds but nothing got rid if it. I had be sure to place them back in the same spot every time to cover the funkiness. If I could go back and do it all over again, I'd go with the vinyl cling type. No worries there. I went with permanent vinyl decal numbers over the winter.

Yeah, I have a spot on my right quarter from a magnet. I had no idea. But I think the above advice is spot on. You won't have a problem I don't think if you put them on in the morning, run an event, then take them off before you go home.

I didn't until I drove home and it rained. Once that “Hawk Blue” brake pad dust combined with iron rotor grindings got wet it turned to this corrosive paint eating concoction that was impossible to get out of the paint. I didn't fret too much over it as I was getting the car painted last winter anyway.
Just a good FYI!
Just got my new magnets in the mail from Annie yesterday. They look nice!
I lost one of my numbers on course twice at the last event. Vent cover do-it-yourself jobs. They don't last long.
Do it right and get Annie.

What Van said!!!! Annie is just the BEST! As a side note, I probably did something wrong, but I did not have the best luck with static cling on our Miata. The Miata hood is aluminum, so no magnets, and it is not a flat surface. I didn't want to put permanent stickies on the hood, so I used static cling. In the rain and cold in Topeka a few years back. It lasted one and a half runs before flying off! Now we tape the static cling sheet when we use it...
