Does anyone have experience with any of the aftermarket fuel injection systems on a V8. Accel, Edelbrock, Holley, Megasquirt ...

Just curious if one system is 'better' than the others. Tuning a carb kind of sucks, especially if you change altitudes.

No direct hands-on experience yet, but I've ben researching it quite a bit. They're all capapble of doing a great job. But the difference is in the details... As always...

The Electromotive, Haltec, MoTec etc. are all very good systems. And you get a lot for your money, tech support being one. From what I understand, systems like Holly and Excell are a step down from there. SDS has been shown to be quite effective, and you don't need a laptop. It's not quite as versatile as the above mentioned systems, but it is certainly a really good bang-for-your-buck. The Megasquirt is the cheapest and probably just as versatile as the more expensive systems, but it's DIY. You have to be willing to invest the time to learn the system, and the software, and learn how to tweak it. But if you're willing and able, Megasquirt is pretty darn effective. And it's getting better all the time. It's basically open source fuel injection...

I've been looking at the Megasquirt. Looks like I can put a system together for a lot less than the others are charging. I'm a firmware engineer by trade but it has been quite a while since I have done any Motorola assembler. I'm always up for a challenge. The open source is cool, I can modify it to add some extra features the base system may not support. Possibilities are almost endless.

The Megasquirt tuning software is pretty complete, and from what I understand, you don't need to fidle with it much to get a basic engine up and running.

Very true - and there's a massive amount of community support over at the Megasquirt forums:

Given your background with firmware, I'd say it's a no-brainer.
