View Full Version : Broken bleeder valve/bolt. Anyone know a place to get it out?

I was putting a speed bleeder in my stock driver rear caliper and i think i over tightened it. The bleeder broke off right above flush on the caliper. Couldn't get a good grip on the remnants with the wrench and my drilling was pretty useless (handheld drill with the smallest bit I had). Took it to a brake shop and they said someone could probably machine it out or something.

Anyone got ideas or know how?

any difference this is for a WRX.

(man I have bad luck with bolts...)

How much of the valve have you drilled out? SpeedBleeder's website suggests trying to hammer a hex wrench into the rest of the bleeder, and using that to twist it out (scroll down to the middle/bottom):

Good luck!

If you have enough room, a torx bit may work also. Take the one that is just a little bit larger than opening and pound it in.

What part of town are you in? I would assume you can take the caliper off since it's no longer sealed. Want to bring it by this evening and see what we can do to get it out?

w00t!!! Got it. Yay for a drill, a torch, a hammer, and a square head bit.

Followed some of the directions on the speed bleeder site (thanks viggy). Getting the ball out was the hardest part. Ended up drilling around the ball best i could, then hammering a screwdriver around it to clear the burs. Then drilled it using a 1/8 bit (since my drill is at my friends house and all I had was a dremel). Tried a 1/8 allen but it rounded it. Then tried a square #2 bit. Didn't budge at first so I torched the outside iron a little. Tried again and turned on the first try. woohoo!.
