For those of you who have been using Paul's new Driving Simulator for High Plains Raceway. How fast does it look like the top speed sections are going to be?
Will we be going faster than at the longest straight away at Pueblo? :D
Unfortunantly none of my computers are up to the task of running the sim.
Does anyone in or near C. Springs have a setup that is up and running the sim? I would love to check it out.
I could bring my Logitech G25 Pedal/Wheel/. It has the clutch pedal and the gated six speed shifter.

Keith I'm sure someone will answer this better than I, but I seem to recall seeing a sim where the car (a Z06) hit something around 150 on the longest straight. We'll see how bad my memory is, but I do recall we'll definitely be going faster than at the end of the front straight at PMI.
Can't wait for April!

Since Arie Luyendyk hit 140 on the back straight on a cold day, on a green and dirty track, in a car with shot DOT R tires (Z06), I'd say 150 is definitely a reality in higher powered cars.

Did you factor in the 60 MHP headwinds and the drag coefficient of a giant tumbleweed imbedded into the front end?

So Josh, you're OK with 150+ mph Corvettes in CTT? Without safety gear?

If I can have articulate conversations with someone in my passenger seat at 150-mph I would think that the driver knows about the safety.... or is just eluding to the safety factors involved with impacts at around that speed. We will finally see what speeds are capable on the fast parts of this track, and I find them reasonably verifiable when the plethora of Corvette's decide to run this course as it seems that these Chevy's will be a benchmark for any track depending on what "bolt-ons' they have added since their times volunteer the most mind-bending times that can be attained by a street car with attainable power and moneis. Not to mention that there are quite a few 'Vette's that are modded to an extremely fast classifacation to where the times that they achieve are moderately acceptable.
Just wait for the CSR's and the DSR's to pave the way for fast times.

having been in both the left and right seats of one of our driver's Vette's at Pueblo, and seen north of 145mph, I see no issue with that speed at HPR.
I am worried about the closing speed between a car of that capability and say Kubo's Xentra. I welcome any suggestions.
Personal responsibility is a definite requirement for participating in CTT this season.

Top speeds at HPR will be fairly similar to PMP.

As Grant already mentioned, it's probably not going to be a dramatic change in top speeds compared with PMP. But the track configuration is different, and that will weigh on how we approach it.

The top speed I have hit at Pueblo was 142mph. That was with my car 100% stock and with street tires.
I now have upgraded the brake ducts/pads/rotors and lines , installed a roll bar, race seat and a set of six point harnesses.

I suggest Kubo watch his mirrors, hold his line, and hang on to his doors.
I will do the same since I aslo plan on running my HS BMW318is (zero to 60 in 26 seconds) a few times this season, and me and Kubo will be running neck and neck at the back of the pack. I might just weld the doors closed so nobody blows em off.

Ah the joys of 100 more HP! 130 is all I've managed. Of course your probably entering the straight carrying more speed because your driving better, and then have 100 more horses to push you down that straight. Plus I always brake too early for 1 at PMI. I did get to hear Grant laughing though as the car blasted through his Mini's top speed in 4th gear :D

This is obviously an old outdated thread at this point, but just for the record: During the open track day on April 24th at HPR, I saw an indicated 142-ish mph at the end of the back straight in my Evo, before braking VERY EARLY @ 4 1/2-ish by the braking signs.
This is on Dunlop Direzza Z1 street/autox tires, and with an unresolved boost problem. If I go back on 275-width R-compounds and at full power, I'd expect peak speeds over 150 mph for sure.

Wow! The best I saw was 131. But of course I'm sure you were carrying at least 5 more mph onto the entrance, and I was braking at 5! Car can probably handle 3-1/2, but I'm not willing at this point. I've got tons of work to do on the rest of the track to carry more momentum and speed onto the straight, and the guts to push that braking point before I'll ever hope to see 150.

Going by the speed-o-meter, I'm running exaclty the same as PMP. IIRC my fastest speed last year was 115 MPH by the speed-o-meter. If I were to remove the new air dam & wing I might go a touch faster at HPR.

I think 'overall', HPR is a faster track. I spent a lot more time at the top of a gear than at PMP.
3 & 4 can be REALLY fast. I'm thinking with fresh tires, that will be hella-fun.
10 is very fast as well... but if you look off the edge between 10 and 11... not much wiggle room if you go off.

Well, I don't have data anywhere near as accurate as what Mark's got.
But according to this website:
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp
The difference in circumference between my 245/40-17 Dunlops and the OEM 235/45-17 Advans will cause a 2.47% speedo error... that's assuming my speedo is accurate at those speeds.
So, 142-ish mph minus 2.47% = about 138.5 mph (assuming I did the math right)
And Grant: It's hard to say how much faster HPR is than PMI, since my car's changed a lot since my last outing at Pueblo. But I'd guess that HPR is about 4-5 mph faster at the end of the back straight than the front straight at PMI... in my car, if I could drive them both with the Evo in the same state, with optimal braking points/exit speed onto the straights at both venues.

Now that I have been there in 3 different cars here is the result.
BMW 318is maxx speed 101 mph
AIX Camaro with a punched out LS3 130 mph
C6 Z06 Corvette on runflat street tires. Maxx is yet to be determined. I let off at 142mph (lifted way early on the straight with lots of room left) Probably can hit 155-160mph.

"Excuses" :) :
1. Street tires (Dunlops Z1 Star Specs)
2. Never did get T3 "right"
3. Braking start at the 4 marker
I'd agree with Hsun; I think its slightly faster than Pueblo. Because of the uphill at the end of the straight, will take awhile to get braking figured out.

There's plenty of straight for me. Even braking way early I was seeing 150+ without much issue. Once I get the brake zone figured out along with the previous corners leading to the straight, I think 170 is rather attainable. I put an incar video up in my other thread too.

Nah, I just keep adding 5mph to my top speed every time somebody asks. It's up to 190 now, since Dan asked. May break 200 by the weekend :D
Our motors only make something like 95lb-ft of torque, so we get to 110-120 in an all-fired hurry, and it takes a long time to go faster than that. I had the rear wing pegged (1st-weekend-chicken-stability), so I imagine I may see 140 or a little over later in the year.
Like David says, the aero results in a bit of drag, but the cornering speeds and g's are an absolute hoot. The key to our laptimes is that we don't have to slow down very often. :D
The other Jake has a bazillion horsepower DSM.

Same here. I'm putting one together for Lindsey to show at PPIR on Memorial Day Weekend. It's all of the footage I managed to get recorded (1 hr. & 50 minutes which is less than 1/3 the time I spent on track that day  ).
Once it's rendered I'm going to chop it up and only use the passing clips for posting on Youtube.
Why do they allow video up to 1GB in file size yet limit the duration to 10 minutes? Seems sorta silly to me.
