I think this was briefly mentioned in a prior post, but i want to draw explicit comment on it.
How will PDX be handled for a car without a passenger seat ?
Will they just not be allowed ?
I see from 2008 TT rules (TTR - Level 1:7) that:
4.
...
All cars MUST have a passenger seat with a 3
point seat belt, both meeting DOT requirements as a minimum.
Passenger seats with the same safety equipment as the driver seat
are highly recommended.

I believe it would be a lead-follow arraignment with the instructor.

Thanks Mark, that's kinda what i thought (case by case)... however, i'd prefer not to fall into this category, i think that the real-time instruction is invaluable.
Just currently my budget does not have 2nd race seat and equivalent harness, listed first. I think it says "BRAKES".
Although, i am optimistic that this will be resolved by the June 20/21 event at MMP !

Is there really an "equal restraint" clause in the PDX rules? Does it explictly say the same seats, or does it just refer to the belts?
If the latter, simply use the stock 3-pt in both seats if they are available.
One seat cars are as Mark says--lead follow, with a review with the instructor after the session.

Thanks Dave,
My situation is that i am pulling the OE seats, installing roll bar, installing racing seat and 6pt harness. In doing so, the stock 3pt belt will no longer work as designed.
It is my plan to have equal seat and harness by June MMP, but i was just curious how much of a problem it would pose if i was not able to.

FWIW, I was able to take an E30 seat belt buckle and attach it firmly for use by the stock 3pt. Might work for the E46.
The first PDX at HPR is going to be unique in several ways--not the least of which will be our instructors will be on track the first time the day before the PDX! Well, that's if you don't count a few hundred laps on the simulator.
We'll figure something out!

Well, sadly due to timing and budget constraints, the first SCCA day at HPR will not be mine. I'll miss that one for driving, but might be able to work it.
I'll catch HPR with SCCA in August... Miller will be my first effort. Hopefully some of the instructors have some input for that venue, i did it last year with another organization, without any instruction and was able to learn lines by driving behind some good drivers, but like i said before, nothing beats realtime in car education.
Btw; one thing that was done at that i hope can be duplicated is that each day (of the two day event) saw a different configuration of the track... day-1 outer loop, day-2 full course. It's such an amazing track that i hope we can get to see a couple of configurations.
Similarly i am eager to try out this HPR site, nothing quite like running at a venue while it's still being developed... i'll just have to remember to bring my own TP.

Your new roll bar will not interfere with the operation of the OEM seatbelt, if the fabricator is any good - :D
Even though you may have a race seat and harness, you could work around the PDX or BMW club "equal restraints" clause, by both driver and passenger using the OEM belts for the PDX.

Thanks for the note Grant, and i have all the faith in the world of my fabricator :)
My concern is/was the routing of the stock belt with the race seat.
However, this point is moot now, as i have sourced a 2nd seat and will have everything ready in time.

Finally got my passenger seat and belt from HMS Motorsport, apparently VAC was taking their sweet time delivering floor plates to them.
Only difference from driver side is, a) no slider and, b) no shoulder pads.
Anyhow, i can now take passengers, who's brave enough ? :)

hahaha, these aren't as bad as some...
but yea, no fatties allowed
actually that's not fair, you do need to have an abnormally narrow waist... i would say 34 max before it becomes unbelievably uncomfortable.

I am planning to be at Miller in June, i'll gladly take passengers when/where applicable.
