Is the team competition going to be run this year? Just wondering, as it really added a great deal of fun to the events, and we really appreciated Hanks efforts arranging the details!

Well, that's a good question.

We've done two seasons with the Team
Autocross with about 100 drivers involved in teams each season.
So, maybe an average of 25% or 50 drivers out of an average field
of 200 at an event are part of a team. Don't quote me on the numbers. If someone
wants to do the math, that'd be good. I'm just kinda guessing on the %.
But roughly half of each team showed up for an event. So, 100/year +-
with 50 per event.

I'd like to get a few more involved, especially more veterans and more
novices who are attending for the first or maybe the second
time. Those just starting to get an interest in Solo.

If we decide to do this again, I think we need to tweak the scoring rules
just a tad.

So, this is a forum, let's hear your thoughts.
Here's a few questions to get you started.

Do we want to do it again?
Changes to the scoring?
How to get new drivers involved?
How about ways of getting more experienced drivers interested?
Why should we have this competition?
Any pros/cons to share?
Just go with what we have been doing?
It's Solo, no need for a Team Competition?
Change the team makeup?
Why are we having a Team Competition?

Do we want to do it again? Yes.
Changes to the scoring? The handicap system seemed to work great.
How to get new drivers involved? Hummmmm, donuts?
How about ways of getting more experienced drivers interested? CHOCOLATE DONUTS!
Why should we have this competition? A good way to get to know your fellow drivers, gain knowledge & feedback on driving & setup.
Any pros/cons to share? The handicapping system gives everyone a chance to contribute regardless of their level of skill or experience.
Just go with what we have been doing? OK by me.
It's Solo, no need for a Team Competition? Bah, humbug!
Change the team makeup? Open to ideas.
Why are we having a Team Competition? Cool little magnets.

I thought it was a lot of fun. Van did a great job trying to get us "new guys" involved with team n00b, but we had really poor turn out. We'd have done really well a few times if one more driver had made it. But alas. So there may have to be some way of taking that into consideration if there is a new n00b crew. Oohhhh. The Nu n00b Cru. That's hot. lol

Ed, I nominate you to head up the Nu n00b Cru for this season.

My variation on Mark's responses:
Do we want to do it again? Yes.
Changes to the scoring? The handicap system seemed to work great.
How to get new drivers involved? When announcing the team results on the forum, add "if you are interested in joining a team, contact XXXXXX"
How about ways of getting more experienced drivers interested? CHOCOLATE DONUTS, and BEER!

Just go with what we have been doing? Maybe minor changes, I'm fine with as is though

Change the team makeup? How about a draft or drawing for membership? It would make it easier for a new member to get assigned. I know I was not comfortable asking other teams I didn't know, and I'm generally pretty outgoing- Thank you Van for being so welcoming with team n00b. Anyway, it would (hopefully) help a team captain be more helpful and welcoming to new members, instead of "form a team of fast people, then wait for the end of the season" It's in their interest to help new team mates that they might not know go faster

I, too, enjoyed the Team aspect.

Perhaps forcing some of our Uber-drivers into X-class would help keep an Uber-only team from forming. I am competative naturally but it wasn't the only reason i like the Team format... its still about the fun, this just gave us something else to beat each other up about.:D

Good point, and your team was not unique in this problem. We should make
a change to help eliminate this, as it's no fun to wanna play ball
and not have enough players.

We could;

increase the number of players on a team.

decrease the number of players that need to be at an event, say from 5 to 4.
or

we could allow substitutes, and if the substitute played in say 3 events they
could become part of the team.

If we allow substitutes, we could pick up new and/or experienced drivers as the season progresses.
This might help with what Jamie suggested in team members seeking out new players during the
season rather than at the very beginning.
A team could pick up a player anytime before say the
first car was off at an event.

I thought it was very fun. Im sure anything you try will improve it, like increasing hte team membership. i think the handicap worled very good, and definately helped the newer people score well.

All good ideas...I enjoyed the Team AutoX (and the silly cones too). It was good having team course walks too!

I had a good time with the team autocross too. I hope Kathy is going to keep team WMR going. Kathy, since John is co-driving my White Miata, it seems like we should add him to the roster.

Hey Hank,
With all your retired time, how about setting up a fantasy league too. Then we could draft and trade drivers during the weeks between events. Shouldn't be too hard to keep up with:p

What I really meant to say was, thanks for all the hard work Hank, and we will play by whatever rules you think work best.
