So I got some of my buddies to finally auto-x. They need help classing their cars.
1. 2005 BMW 325i- Coilovers, 19x8/19x8.5 wheels with 235f and 245r, headers, intake, catless
2. 1985 Nissan Pickup. The truck is really low and has good suspension so can it even autocross? He has a HFC, headers, CBE, 15x7s with 225s, carburetor. gutted interior
3. 1989 BMW 325i- 16x7 wheels with 205 tires. gutted interior.
4. I am in STS right now. What class would I move to if I add fender braces? I would like to stay out of SM if that is at all possible.
Thanks in advance!

Here's my stab at it:
1 - DSP
2 - Since it's gutted GP? (with interior FSP?)
3 - Since it's gutted FP?
You could have all three run each other in OSP I suppose.

1. SP I think, probably DSP (are headers legal in SP?)
2.Either FSP or a prepared class (depending on how gutted and how exacting we are being), and I believe Clay would have to sign off on the pickup before it could run.
3. Either ST or a prepared class, depending againon just how gutted the interior is.
So basically, I'm not too sure. :)

Thanks Van! I think I may have them all register for OSP so they can all race each other. It is their first time and they are all roommates so they can battle each other :). Is there any reason the truck will not be able to race? It is lower than a lot of cars.

Cool I just saw you posted this. Thanks for your help

The only concern would be for roll over safety, but I doubt it will be much of a problem, between the hot truck and a few foresters Clay is very open minded about letting vehicles run that are not traditional auto-x cars as long as they are safe.
I doubt it will be much of a problem at all

I don't think there will be a problem cause Matt Leicester runs the Hot Truck :)

Added 4th car. It is another classing question. Thanks!

On the fourth car I'm guessing DSP, I'm not too sure what fender braces are, but you can do whatever you like to your fenders in SP. if you aren't cutting them, and it doesn't affect the amount of tire your running (and your probably running the 225mm max for STS right?) I see no reason not to stay in STS. I can't see how else it would give you an advantage in auto-x.

I am not cutting the fenders or running wider tires. I have just heard putting fender braces on bumps me out of STS.

After doing a little search, I'm not too sure. Since they are braces and theoretically help with performance (I couldn't figure out how, maybe to keep the suspension mounting points from moving?) the letter of the law has you somewhere between SP, SM and some P class. However since there is a stock part there...
To me it seems like something that only effects the performance of your car on the third or fourth order of magnitude relative to things like coilovers or swaybars, or other major mods I would stay in STS. Is that the class you would have to run in at nationals, no probably not, but it is the class where you will have the most fun, and the class where your car fits in in terms of performance.
Just my revised $.02 (I run STS, and would have no problem with it):)

Thanks for your help. I just didn't want to be a cheater:) I will stay in STS until somebody complains.

assuming you are talking about something like http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/wm.php/images/gtspec-fendbrace.jpg
That in theory moves you to prepared. They make a similar thing for the miata and when I looked into it, that was my determination. Certainly not anything official just my opinion.

The fender braces I got only have 2 mounting points as opposed to 3 if that makes a difference.

I don't think it matters, and just for the record, I wasn't complaining or suggestion you shouldn't run ST, just sharing information.

I didnt take it that way:) I am just trying to find out so I am not a cheater. It sounds like I should be fine in ST for now.
Hey Mark, not sure how much this post will help you but not sure it would be legal if you are adding them. Replacing ones that currently exist (if you do) maybe in SP? I have no clue sorry! :)

Regardless, you are pretty fast in STS as you are.
How about you grab some R-comps and run FSP with all the cool kids! ;)
Faster is funner.

Thanks for the link Van. From what it sounds like, as long as I have the pre-existing fender braces, I can run in SP. My guess is I will run in DSP or FSP.

Unless those fender braces are updated/backdated from another car on the same line, they're not legal in SP. You can run upper and lower strut tower braces, but chassis stiffening devices are not legal.

Thanks for the help everyone. It is a moot point now. They didn't fit my car.
