Wow... That's a drive.

It is. Especially through a blizzard like last Spring when we held the TRSS up there. The roads were perfect on the drive home though. Like it never snowed!?!?
It's an awesome site though, well worth the drive.

I am very excited about this especially after missing this weekend to a pesky wheel bearing failure :( I will definitely make the trek out there. Good thing I have a wagon. I will have to bust out the sleeping bag :D

Yup - over 3 for me, not to mention a tank and a half of diesel for the round trip. Oh well. Took me about 9 to get to Topeka. At least the scenery is more interesting than western Kansas.

I'd just like to note that google maps says it will take 2 days and 7 hours to walk there...

Arnie, Clay, Tom,

What time will the ECRA site be open on Saturday morning and when will the event start?

Will we be able to leave our trailers at the airport if we're working the TRSS on Sunday?

Is there going to be a dinner/class for the TRSS on Saturday night?

Just curious since this is my first season, i missed the last event at PPIR, is this basically the same exact thing as the summer series, just change the name to winter series because of the changing seasons?

Not quite... The close of the summer series yesterday ended the points competition/season trophy run for 2008.

The Winter Series is a no "point" series that we all do since we start Jonesin' to Autocross even when the weather turns cold. Hopefully, the Winter Series gives us the opportunity to keep our skills sharp, those of us who have "sharp" skills and fine tune any modifications we've made to our cars for 2009 competition.

I remember one winter, a few ago, where we had great weather for every winter event (tops down and all that) and another season that weather had us cancel 2 or 3 event. Other events that we ran that were dry but we froze our asses off.

Just part of the sport that we all love.

The other fun thing of winter events is that anyone can ride, any time. For the summer series, Novices can ride any time, but everyone else can only ride with someone after their own runs. That means if someone you want to ride with you to give you some pointers hasn't run yet, they can't in summer but can in winter! Much fun. Also, since there are no trophies and no points accumulated for the winter season, it's easier to catch a ride with normally very serious folks, no waiting for fourth runs if you want to ride with an X class driver.

Winter events tend to have lower attendance, as well, so there is frequently the opportunity for more runs than summer events. (Not to speak for our event chairs.) Generally speaking though, the overall experience isn't too different from the summer series, just a bit more relaxed and - well - cold and stuff.

Just in case you haven't made your way to the "Directions" link to find out how to get to Eagle County Regional Airport, I've copied the hotel information that was posted there along with the directions. The rates are "representatative" i.e, I went to the website, checked "Availability and Rates" for the 11-12 Oct weekend and this is what was presented. I can't guarantee that your results will be the same, or that there is still availability. The $95 rate for the Inn At Riverwalk in Edwards is a special rate for us.

If anyone finds other good deals, post them here.

Note: Large Rig parking will be a little bit of an issue. You may need to park "off-property."

Hotels:
Holiday Inn Express Eagle 75 Pond Road, Eagle, CO $117
Best Western Eagle Lodge 200 Loren Lane, Eagle CO $112 Race Fan Rate
Inn At Riverwalk 27 Main St, Edwards CO $95

A little clarification on "off-property" please? How far off? I ask because the Scirocco isn't legal to drive on the streets (technically is, but isn't registered/insured/etc) and there are probably others in the same boat.

Can't say; depends on the property. Generally speaking, there didn't seem to be a lot of room to maneuver at the Riverwalk in Edwards, where I've stayed before.

Best bet is to call the hotel and ask.

Holiday Inn Express - 877-863-4780
Best Western Eagle Lodge - 970-328-6316
Inn at Riverwalk - 970-926-0606

Okay, so I'm a bit confused....Nothing new. But, is there a Street Survival in Eagle? It is not shown in the Schedule Page.

OK, now I'm confused. I WAS asking about leaving my car on my trailer at the AX/TRSS site (the airport) over-night Saturday. Will that be do-able?

I've made a reservation at the Holiday Inn Express in Eagle for Saturday night ($129 +tax). It looks like they have "ample" parking with several pull-though spots. I was hoping I could catch a ride back & forth with someone staying over for the TRSS and not have to deal with the truck/trailer.

There is plenty of room in "airport parking." Not sure yet whether we'll be putting tow rigs on the ramp. Will advise . . .

yup, $95 the night. Just made my reservation at the Inn. They state its about 40 minutes to the airport from the hotel, and east of Eagle.

Sounds/looks like a good place.

Since this seems to be the only discussion about the Winter series event 1, and it seems much easier than starting up a new thread. I was just wondering if sound will be setup at the next event, even though there is no 93dB sound requirement? I just added another muffler into my exhaust and i'd be curious if it has quieted it down enough to be legal for the events that follow.

Thanks,
Jason

I haven't heard one way or another if this is a sound controlled site, but I don't see it listed as having a 93db limit either. If indeed it is not, we won't likely be measuring sound *officially* because we probably won't have enough workers to fully staff two heats. If registration numbers approach 100, then we could, and, of course, if the site is sound limited, we'll sacrifice someone to work sound. But, this is going to be a low key event (read that to mean we're going to have as much fun as we did at Cloverleaf last year -- remember those 8 runs?!). I'd be happy to get you everything you need to set up the sound meter and you can find someone running your heat to watch the meter when you run (they'll have to hustle to and from the meter in between their runs). Just remember if the airport is in use there maybe a little background noise skewing your sound readings. :) See me at the T&S truck as we're setting up and we'll see what we can do.

I read earlier that this event was limited to 60 entries, is that not the case?

From Tom H.'s original post

Special "Test" Event: Saturday, October 11 at Eagle County Airport in Gypsum. This will truly be special: No sound restrictions...entry limited to 60...held on the airport apron (like this Spring's Street Survival). I need to wait for Arnie to get back into town so we can work on the details and we will get them out as they are available. This could be a lot of fun! Thanks Arnie!

Thanks a bunch Jamie. If we don't have enough people it's not that big of a deal to get a sound reading. I was just curious, one would probably be sufficient enough if anything. But if there's a possibility of it slowing the event, then I definitely don't want to do that.
