Jeff,

Is it true that that each phase will cost about $200 and you can't enroll in phase 2 until unless you've conpleted Phase 1?

A data point for those interested in the school.

I contacted the Evolution School directly asking how I could get signed up for the Denver school(s). The response indicated that I did nothing through Evolution itself, but instead worked directly with the region.

So, it looks like there's no need to contact the Evolution folks directly. Instead, fill up Jeff's PM inbox :-)

So to sign up, email Jeff? If so how soon?

Sounds like fun.

Arnie,

You are correct. In order to register for a phase 2, you must have completed a phase 1 course. The Evo schools are pretty structured and they refer back to phase 1 and 2 a lot, so you would not be able to follow if you jumped in one of the later classes.

The Evo dissection of the Nationals courses also will refer to certain elements covered in phase 1, so you really need to start at the beginning.

When Carol and I did the schools at Wendover last year, I felt like I had to take three steps back after phase 1, and it took a while for the benefits of the course to sink in.

Jeff L, I hope if there is sufficient interest from our locals that we may run more than one school per day. Wendover 2005 had a phase 1 and 2 on day one, and then a phase 2 and challenge school on day two.

Carol and I are definitely interested, both schools, both days.

I think there is no doubt that the majority of the CO AutoXers + Time Trials Drivers would do Phase 1 and 2. So sign me up first :)

I've heard nothing but good things about this school from Grant and Carol Barclay.

Prices will be $240 I think, let me know if this pushes you out.

21 students phase 1, 18 phase 2, monday is phase 1, thursday is phase 2.

Thanks for bringing this autocross school to Denver.

We can highly recommend Evolution School. We drove the WRX down to Tucson over Thanksgiving a couple of years ago and took a Phase I course one day, and a Phase II course the next day. You will be so tired at the end of the day, but you get lots of seat time and national champion instructors.
While it's a little expensive, you get your money's worth.

It would be hard for us to get off work both days, so Jean and I will only sign up for the Phase II School on Thursday this time.

Thanks,
Michael Smith

It sounds like there isn't a chance for a Phase III or Challenge school yet. I hope to take Phase II again, since it's been 2 years since I took my last Evolution school. Count me in for either Phase III or Challenge if you can arrange for it.

To make Jeff's job just a little easier, I've tallied up the responses within this thread.

The number of students for Phase 1 is 21. Currently, there are 10 people that have said they would register.

The number of students for Phase 2 is 18. Currently, there are 11 people that have said they would register.

Hopefully, that's enough initial interest to convince the Evo school to come to Denver in July! I checked the Evo site, www.autocross.com/evolution and "our" dates are not yet listed.

Still no official response? What a shame. I guess from the lack of official response here we probably aren't going to have one.

For those of you still interested in attending one of these schools, here's a link to the Evolution School calendar where you can find a region that does have EVO schools.

Looks like the closest one is Wendover in the middle of August.

bring tires, bring water, bring sunscreen.

We intend going to both days of the EVO schools in Wendover. Last year they had two schools each day. Challenge school too.

Mike Deyer is the contact there. mdeyer "at" aros.net is the address I have.

Another reason to go, is that week is speedweeks on the salt flats. If you have never witnessed the spectacle that is land speed racing I encourage you to go. be sure to suncreen your whole body. When I first worked at the salt flats I got burned underneath my shorts. :D

who's going to join us?

Nevada in August.

I'm kinda hoping once the school on the 15th is done perhaps Jeff will be able to focus on the Evo school and it can still happen. I was hoping to do it before the Denver Pro Solo event, but depending on how things are going might consider Wendover. At least my car is white!

BTW, how far ahead of time do I need to get registered for the Denver Pro Solo?

lmichael

There are also Evo schools scheduled for Seattle (probably at the Packwood tour site) on August 8-10. The Packwood tour is August 12/13. So, it's possible to go to the school, then practice what's been learned at the tour event. I'll be strongly considering this if the Evo schools don't come to Denver this year.

aleliaert
04-12-2006, 03:20 PM
Jen and I did the Evo school and Tour at Packwood last year. We highly recommend it.

The site is part of the parking at Hampton Mills. Big asphalt lot, complete with indoor paddock, surrounded by wooded hills. The smells of wood processing linger in the air. Lumber trucks meandering by, drivers befuddled by the spectacle of racing.

Mix in two volcanoes nearby and some good local bars and you have a unique experience. The locals even barbequed on Saturday night for Tour participants, a nice bonus.

I think you'll be busy this Saturday Mr. Lundgren. I know I'll be hunting you down.

While I'm sure Jeff would appreciate some race tire money, I don't think that is going to get you into the Evo school.

My understanding is that we need to wait until registration opens on the Evo site, then register online. I'm guessing that Jeff isn't involved in the transaction or registration.

That said, I'll have a checkbook just in case. :-)

lundgren
05-12-2006, 08:18 PM
Actually I am involved. The region takes the money from students, then hires Evol to run the school.. that's about it. I wish evo would do more of it, but they don't. We even pay for the insurance and do the sanction, and then we keep the profits for the club. Having said that the evo school won't make us much at all.
