I had intended to have a cell phone in the car with at last year's TRSS spring school. But I thought, nah, that might be over the top.
Then of course I talk to Bill at the event, and he's all for it.
For all the TRSS schools we're doing this year, I recommend instructors have their cellphones as a prop with them. Should be fun, and make the point.

Yup! A few instructors at the fall school took the initiative and made a point with the students. We'll talk about doing that and some alternatives at the instructors schools from now on.

This would be a great example. If I remember right, didn't Nick Caruso say he did the cell phone dialing routine with his students?
I heard another one that was kind of interesting, have a student count backwards from 100 my 3's (or some other odd number) while trying to navigate the exercises. Not something easy like 2's or 5's.
"The ol' left brain vs. right brain conflict."
after my student ran the slalom cone free for 3 runs, i had him dial and pretend to talk on the cell for a run. once again, cone free. i was a little disappointed. so then i had him change CD's and find me a decent song in his high school collection. that was a bit tougher. finally hit some cones. after holding a social studies discussion and tossing food wrappers in the driver seat direction, the idea of driving while distracted being dangerous finally got across. i think he enjoyed it too.
