View Full Version : Classifying a Forester?

The recent trouble with my car has led me to this quesiton. Could I run in my wife's MY01 Subaru Forester? According to the rules, I believe it would run in HS (it's not otherwise classified, that I could see). It is completely stock.

However, technically, the vehicle is considered an SUV. It does have a higher center of gravity then my WRX, but then again, that's not a stretch. Has anyone even seen a Forester run?

Interesting question! If I were event chair (which I'm not), I'd say run (especially as I presume you're on street tires, not sticky rubber). We let the Subaru wagon run (although there's been one instance of debate at an event). I'd consider the Forester more wagon than SUV, but I'd keep a watchful eye on your runs.

However, I'm interested other, more experienced voices (especially from tech and safety): any problems with the Forester? Anything in the rule book we should all know? What other crossover machines does this bring to mind?

depending on wich one it is depends on what class its in

the Forester25XT is classed in DS page151 all others look like HS 158 subaru NOC ive seen them run at events before

if the XT is classified in DS in the 06 rulebook shouldnt the non turbo fall under the NOC

fwiw the forester is on the impreza platform you can even swap suspension parts over the XT is turbo all the others are 2.5L NA

This post is NOT to stir a can of worms or not let wagons and forresters run. That is certainly not my intent.

Continue reading for humorous (at least i think so) purposes only.:D

Some of you may know that there is now a Cadillac SRX in my garage.

Given "The SRX is another example of Cadillac's "Art and Science" design, with chiseled edges and hard surfaces. It bears a close resemblance to the Cadillac CTS sport sedan, which is not too surprising, because both are built off the same Sigma platform." from http://www.forbes.com/2003/11/03/cz_sk_1103test.html Does that make me DS where the CTS is? Certainly not AS where the CTS-V is? Or do I get to go to HS as not otherwise classified?

p.s. Anyone have any 315/35R18 V710s?

We let the Pontiac Vibe run and so why not the Forester they are about the same height? So I would say if it's leaning to far while you run then most likely the cheif of safety will inform you about it.
As a tech, I don't see anything wrong with running it especially if it has all seasons on it. You'll just have to worry about cleaning the rubber off the wheelwells ;)

Anybody remember Street Survival class 2005 and running in the conversion van? :D

That's right. I remember that van; I was "maintaining" the cones when it was on the skidpad.

I'm not planning on attending tomorrow, it was just a thought. Besides, her windshield had an unfortunate run-in with her defroster (don't ask).

And, yep, I'd probably run her all-seasons (Goodyear Assurance!). Unless my 225/17 Hankooks fit on her car. The bolt pattern for the wheels is the same.

And, no, I wasn't intending to open a can of worms. :D I was just thinking about that VW bus I saw at one of last season's winter events... Besides, she needs her car tomorrow. She has to run two Girl Scout cookie booth sales.

PS. It's a 2001 Forester L; 2.5L. Nothing special. I have tried to talk her into trading it in for the turbo model, but no go! :(

My non-professional opinion needs no words. (Take advantage of it...it doesn't happen often!) :)

Since when can a Lightning run HS? I think that classification has an extra "H" and is missing an "F"

Uh...when it's January and
...nobody had the list handy to look it up.
...nobody really cared that much.

That'd be my guess.
My point was that if it ran AT ALL, a Forester should be a no-brainer...
