I've been working with Eagle County Sherriff Joe Hoy to bring a TRSS school to the Avon Colorado area. We are targeting Mid-April to mid-May timeframe, but haven't set a specific date yet. That will require input from you all.

Joe and I have discussed the pros and cons of a Fri/Sat school vs a Sat/Sun school. We are looking at two days, so we can hold an instructor school on the first day, then the TRSS on the second day. We prefer Fri/Sat, but that will depend on your availability.

Here are some details of the two "scenarios":

Fri/Sat

- Arrive Friday mid-late afternoon
- Hold Instructor school Friday after dinner
- Return home Sat after school (or stay Sat nite and enjoy the scenery on Sunday!)
- This seems the best option in terms of Student availability; harder for instructor availability

Sat/Sunday

- Instructor school Saturday afternoon
- TRSS school on Sunday
- Better for instructor availability, but could affect student turnout

I need to know which option you prefer and believe you can make yourself available for. I favor the Fri/Sat plan, and believe I'll be able to get the day off or work extra hours or whatever to make myself available. If there are enough of you who can do the same, we'll go with Fri/Sat; if not then we'll plan for Sat/Sun.

Some more general info regarding the event:

- The event will be held on the Eagle County Regional Airport ramp. I'm not yet sure of how much of it we'll get to use, but the "useable" area is about 325ft X 3600ft (a litlte wider, but much longer than Coors Field).

- The local Rotary Club will be heavily sponsoring this event. They have agreed to fund one nites hotel stay for 15 instructors staff. The rest of the instructors/staff will come from the County Sheriff's office and local private citizens (thus the importance of the instructor's school beforehand).

- They will also be doing much of the marketing, and obtaining sponsors for lunches, water, and other necessites.

Please consider making yourselves available for this rather special event.

BTW, clearly there are some extra-ordinary logistical issues that Tom and I will need to address. Once we have a firm plan, we may call on some of you to help out in that area as well.

A couple parting thoughts:

- This school is still fairly "soft" planning wise. I'd ask you to be discrete about any details until they are finalized. Once the event is put on the TRSS website calendar, we'll be shouting about it from the rooftops.

- I also want you to know that I have an alternative agenda for establishing a relationship with the airport for the TRSS school. I'm going to try to warm them up to the idea of holding a National level Solo event (Tour, Pro, both?) there in the future, along with one or two "tests" events before hand for RMSolo. This is just an idea I'm going to work on; no reason yet to think it'll happen, so this cat will have to stay in the bag for now. I'll count on your discretion on this matter until I have some facts to report.

Just so you won't forget the original intent of this thread, please post your schedule preference and likely availability for the Eagle County TRSS assumig a Mid-April to mid-May date.

This one should be a hoot!

At this early date, I'll say I can make the Fri/Sat (or the Sat/Sun) schedule, but that is subject to change as we get closer to the actual dates.

Either scenario works for me. I can make them both work, after all, I'm the HMFIC!!

The Fri/Sat schedule would work best for me. I also have a full sized pick'em up truck that is available for hauling "stuff".

PS-I would also be available the entire day Thursday (and Friday) before the event to help with getting the truck/trailer ready and moved up there, or anything else for that matter.

I can probably make either scenario, but availability will depend on the date.

I'm on the track in Hastings the last weekend in April, and La Junta the following weekend.

Friday/Saturday means I need two days off, Sat/Sun means only one. Sunday works much better for me...

sat/sun is best for me, fri/sat would mean missing a day of classes, which is doable but not preferable, fridays are pretty light this semester for me:D

Randy,
It sounds like if we did it on Friday, the instructors meeting isn't until early evening "after dinner". You may not have to miss any school either way!

My situation is similar to Ken's reply.

I've firmed up a date for the "Eagle County TRSSS." We will hold an after dinner training session on Friday, 25 April (7:00-9:00 PM), and conduct the school on Saturday, 26 April (8:00 AM-4:00 PM).

The event is being heavily supported by the Rotary Club and Eagle County Sheriff's Department. The Rotarians will be supplying the majority of resources for the school, including lunches, refreshments, water for the exercises. They are also providing Friday nite's lodging for 15 of our instructors and staff. The sheriffs department will be providing instructor trainees. One of the Rotarians is in the marketing business, so they will be taking care of the majority of the marketing efforts in that area. Even though this school was organized to target students from the Eagle County area, registration will be open to anyone, anywhere, and as you know, TRSSS students aren't strictly local (our two previous schools had students from out of state, and even Canada!) so we will also do some marketing on the Front Range. I'll be asking for your help with this, and providing you some marketing materials to distribute.

The event venue is the Eagle County Regional Airport ramp. Not yet sure how much of it we'll get to use, but there should be PLENTY of space to lay out all the exercises at once (the ramp measures approx 300 X 3600 ft, according to Google Earth!).

Although the ramp is a little narrow, it may be suitable for an autocross venue. I will be investigating the possibility of conducting one or two "test events" there over the summer, with the goal of possibly scheduling a National Tour or Pro (or both!) in '09. Since this is only a germ of an idea at this point, please, let's keep this under our hats for now.

Although April seems a bit far away, I want to start building an instructor team ASAP, so if you are relatively confident you will be able to support this event. please post a reply.

More details forthcoming as they are made available . . .

Arnie,
I'm in. I'll submitted a vacation request today and arranged for a friend to feed "My Boy's".
Again, I'll be available all day both Thursday and Friday before the event if help is needed getting equipment up there and for setup.

Arnie,
If I'm not working on the scheduled dates I'd love to help out.
