Good day all,
As most of you heard, the DIA lot has been revamped with new interesting "features". These features are the new poles that were a part of the Mt Elbert lot reconstruction.
Prior to the reconstruction, there were sections A-F. With A being the northern most area of the parking lot. The metal signs between sections A and B have been removed. This opens up many more options for features, that were not available due to the cross-overs between the poles. The area between section B and C have new poles. These poles are made of metal pipe of about 8 inches in diameter. These pipes are roughly 3 feet high and filled with concrete. We can NOT remove these poles and making contact with these poles will have similar effects as if you were to collide with a light pole.
I am designing the courses with safety in mind, for ourselves and our vehicles. There will be plenty of distance between the course and the obsticles. No more close crossings between poles.
Below is a drawing of the new configured Lot. The Paddock area and Grid are clearly marked, and will more than likely be the same for the whole season. When arriving at the events, please park your stuff in the paddock area designated on this image. Portions of section A, that we paddock in are no longer available for we are trying to use the lot as much as possible.
If there are any questions or issues, please send myself or jeff a message.
Take it easy and I hope we have an event in a few weeks.
Pray fo no sno

Is north up? If so, will we be entering through the same (east) gate? Will we then drive around the south end of the course to the paddock area?

I had the same question, so I went to the "live" shot:

So it would appear that 'up' is 'west' in MrPickles picture! :D

We might enter to the gate to the south of the 'old' one... but yes the east side.

Looks like we have enough paddock for everyone to get a motor home and trailer and still have a separate parking place for the car.

Here's a layout of Coors Field laid over Mt. Elbert ... as close to scale as possible using satellite imaging (also see Jeff L's other drawing)

What'd you buy now, Mike?

WOW, the new lot is almost IDENTICAL to Coor's field. Except better surface area and slightly wider. I promise to make the courses look as little as possible like coor's field courses. :)
IAN: Yes the top of the map is "west". This is the same map we have been using for the last several years for course designs. But "my bad", I should have put a compass on the drawing.

Nothing, I'm broke (that's financially challenged for the P.C. weenies). It just looks like we have more room for paddock than we do for the course.

It's actually anywhere from 50 to 100 ft wider, depending on where it is on the big south poles. See attached. While we cannot run the full 450 ft width because of the tall light poles (see smaller DIA width), even the smaller width is 20% wider than Coors field. Using the areas between the poles, we gain about 35% more width in some areas, and while it's certainly no square lot area, that much more room actually gives us a lot more flexibility than Coors field, not to forget we can have the start lane start in B, and the cool off (well after the finish), go back into B. Michael is pretty creative.

Are we sure we have the full lot now? Have they finally stopped parking cars there?

There are no cars there, and they have not parked a single one since Christmas.

I would be SOOOO nice if we had that whole lot, WITHOUT poles.

No kidding. Hopefully that if they don't use it anymore they just allow us to rip up those stupid poles again. Anyone on the pole removal team knows that we'll need a backhoe to remove these guys.

More like a jack hammer would be best, and there is no putting them back if so :)

I took this cool picture of the north half of the dia lot when I flew out last weekend:

Btw, Mr. Pickles, I must say that for the shape of the lot that you were given to work with, the course layout on Feb 25th was very impressive. The entire course was loads of fun. It combined technical proficiency with some outright horsepower parts, both of which I enjoy. It was the first time I'd ever hit my 8000rpm rev limiter in 2nd gear for multiple seconds on multiple occasions during the same run. I kept trying to shift to 3rd right before the finish line, but I never could seem to get it in gear at 7800rpm while leaning sideways, hah.
Excellent job, and I look forward to the next one on the 26th...

Thanks for the compliment. I try to make all my courses challenging, fun, safe and different every time. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Killer picture Jesse! I'm suprised it looks that good even through the airplane window.
