View Full Version : WRX Tire Search
Got me some shiny 17x8 wheels for the WRX. Now I just need sticky rubber circles to mount on them.
Anyone know anything about the Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212? How does it stack up against the Azenis and MXs?

Comes in 235-40-17, and edgeracing claims they run wide.
Thanks, Gary

Gary,
You can find alot of insight from some of the national drivers at this thread on sccaforums.com

But basically you could go with Falken 615's because they might have a stiffer sideway then the MX and Kooks. Also you might want to take a look and see that Yoko Advan Neova has a size 235-40-17.

Hmm, that GRM article wasn't overly impressed with the Hankooks. Although I'd think longitudinal grip wouldn't be as big an issue with an AWD car as it was with the WWD (wrong wheel drive) Sentra they used for their testing.
I'd absolutely go with the 615's if they came in a good size. I'm still pretty tempted to go with them anyhow in the gigantic 245-45-17 size, even though they would be a good 3/4" taller than the 235-40-17 Hankooks. The only other size they come in is 225-45-17. I would think the extra inch of tire width would outweigh the lost power from the tall tire.
I'd consider the Yokohama's, but $200/tire is a bit pricey for tires I'm going to shred.
Must decide soon. I can't handle doing another event on my all-seasons. :)

Hrm. I Thought that Falken was going to make the 615s in 235/40-17. Doh! If they don't I'm gonna be up a creek here by mid-summer when my kumhos buy the farm...

Nothing to sweat now, but vulcantire is stating a March release. Gary - maybe you can find some used 615's or MX's that some is letting go due to garage space. Or you can go with the Kooks. Warning is that you must shave the MX's and Kooks down or you get alot of squirm from the tread design.
Go here to see the RT-615's that are available:

Thanks Eric. Phew. Gary, you had me a little worried there! You may be able to find a set of BFG KD's in that size for cheaper than the neova's. There's another thought. Good luck.
