View Full Version : September 9th Event is on

The September 9th event at Cloverleaf is on. Registration should be open soon. There are some special things everyone should note. This is not a points event in the RM Solo Summer Series It will not count as an event toward your minimum number of events and it will not be included in the Team points. This is an event that will allow us to evaluate the Cloverleaf site and have some fun. We have all heard about the conditions at the site and many of you have asked us to run up there to see what it is all about. So here we go.
The gates will open at 7:00 am (a little later than usual) and first car off will be at 9:30. We will need a 50 car minimum by the close of registration or the event will be cancelled. I will see if we can get the lot swept prior to the event. That will depend on the number of entrants and how much a sweeper will cost. Entry fees will be the usual amounts. Matt Leicester mentioned that since this is a non-point event, get lots of right seat time if you are able. This will be a sound restricted event. I hope many of you can make it up there! Click on the Directions link on the left margin for directions to the site.

Registering the FJ would probably set off national alarms in some database somewhere :D I'll be there to help.

The FJ isn't as prone to rolling as an Explorer is it? Now if someone signed one of those (an Explorer with, um, Firestone tires I believe) up for an AutoX event I would be headed the other way (or maybe cozy up behind a light pole or tree with a video camera...)
OK so maybe the FJ is better suited to racing on Georgetown lake than pavement (or maybe not;)... I suppose it depends on the vintage of the FJ in question as well as it's condition.
Seriously though, thanks for coming out just to help (I suppose with all the "traction" issues discussed about the site it is a good thing to not run the FJ)...

Perhaps if it were a new one, but mine is a '75 and soft as a sponge ;)

This might be a good training opportunity for workers? I'm assuming that it will be conducted just like a normal event. Might be able to work on some problem areas seen at recent events, get some new people exposed to some of the more demanding / complicated work activities.

I think this is a great idea. There are a lot of work assignments that require training/experience. A non-point event with (probably) lower than usual attendance seems like a really good time train up some more folks. We all have our favorite assignments, but the more of us who know how to do multiple things, especially the more involved ones, the better we'll be able to keep all our events running smoothly.

Before I can register and get anothr club racer registered for this event I need to know where an SCCA Club Racing E Production BMW Z3 fits. Is it F Prepared? and while your at it (assuming you are at it) how about a E Production 1st generation Mazda RX-7 so I'll know what class designation I'll be in next year?

I just registered, and i went to check out the lot today. Its huge, but as you all know it has lots of loose gravel, and is a rough road. It has a few potholes here and there too, but im sure that the course designer/creater will adjust accordingly when he/she see's it. I recommend that if you are worried about your paint you protect it with painters tape or something of the sort. Just my $.02... any how im excited to go!

I was out that way today so I've checked out the lot while I was there. It doesn't look as bad as many make it seem. Sure, it's not the prettiest, or the smoothest, but just to get out and have some fun at the end of the season, I'd say it looks good enough :D :p I'm already registered (since yesterday).

The Z3 goes into DP if it's a 4 cylinder, the EP RX-7 gets stuck in FP, same as a GT RX-7. Bummer, huh? The EP cars used to get to run EP in Solo, which made the graphics pretty darn easy!

Hey Tom question for ya. If this event happens I would like to be able to drive 2 cars. Now this would only work if the heats line up right. I have my car in AS and a friends in STS. If things worked out is there any chance of me being able to drive both? I know there are problems that can come from this and I am only asking. thanks.

Why not? I think you want the cars to be in the same heat. It will be easier to do your two work assignments. Either way, as long as you or someone does the two work assignments you could run it either way; both cars in the same heat or one in each heat. If the run order is not the way you would like, run out of class in the other heat. It doesn't count anyway, right? As long as we have coverage on the worker side and we don't make too much work for T&S it's good for me. (Those are pretty big conditions so don't everybody start changing classes and order "on the fly".)

Still have almost a week, and if some people don't do well this weekend they may very well decide on getting some more seat time (we can hope)... Others may not have been on the site recently (they may have registered for this weekend early on and don't know anything about the discussion and subsequent decision that was made for next week and are planning to go online Monday (we can hope some more...)
Yeah I think well make it. But it won't hurt to do some recruiting this weekend :)

Cool. It may just be easier for me to do a morning work asignment. Is there a sign up for that. this way I could help in the morn and not worry about it in the afternoon.

Just a thought for everybody...
Depending on how many entrants we get, it might be a good idea to do multiple work assignments if there's a low number of drivers. I mean, I'm willing to chip in as much as possible to get plenty of runs

The only work assignment I cannot do is morning setup. Otherwise, I'd be willing to work multiple assignments and help with tear-down. Not having to load/tow/un-load/load/tow/un-load for this event is going to NICE!!!
If we only have 50-75 entrants, would you rather have only 2-10 run heats or have, say, 4-5 run heats where we would work, run, work and run again?
As a learning experience, being able to watch, run, watch, run would be my preference. Of course, we would waste time changing work crews doing it this way.
Although, getting several (6+) consecutive runs has its advantages too. At the end of the first day of the Divisional, I got in 6 fun-runs for a total of 9 runs for the day before everyone threw in the "proverbial towel" on me (Which I can understand). By the last run, I had the course down pretty well, and only had one apex that I didn't hit right. (You were the starter for the fun runs weren't you Kubo?).
No matter how Tom organizes things, it will be a fun day and we should get in a lot of runs.

Now I like that attitude! In the same vein, we have a couple of Chiefs who have committed to be at the event and will not be driving in the event. There are many good people in RMSolo!
Boyd, put in your work assignment preferences at registration and look for the Chiefs asking for course setup and gate volunteers in the forum.

Count me in. Tech, corners, whatever. Surely we can get 50+. I need seat time! I've got a beast to tame.

We have our 50 entrants for the 9/9 event. I'm glad, because I just spent all morning removing stereo stuff, changing tires and getting ready for it.

Unless the entry list changes dramatically, it looks like we will have a low turnout Sunday, but we will hold the event. The weather should be great. I just want to give everyone a heads up on what we will need to do in order to pull this off.
First, it doesn't look like we can affort to sweep the lot.
Second, just about everyone will need to work two assignments. This is going to be like the "old" times and the way smaller clubs do it. If you aren't running, you are working. We will need a group of early people to set up the course. Look for a sign up posting later this week. The course set up people will probably need to work course as well. There will be two or three people working tech and they will work course as well later in the day. I think you see how this is going to work. We all will put on the event and we all should have a lot of fun.
Third, as far as number of runs go; this will be up to everyone to be ready and change over quickly. More than likely we will have just two heats. Depending on how fast we can run the runs and what the weather will be like, be open for some winter-type runs. For instance, we may have the first heat run 3 or 4 runs, change, run the second heat with the same amount runs and then have the first heat cars run two or more runs followed by the second heat. This may or may not be the way it plays out. This does minimize how long workers are on the course at one time and gives everyone a little time for a break in between runs.
Fourth, The track has rest rooms and light concessions. I will call Traci to see if she wants to bring the lunch truck up there but no promises.
I am really happy to see all of the Wyoming/Northern Colorado people supporting this event. For years you have said if we had an event up north you would be there and you have done just that! Thank you! I'll have plans more fleshed out Friday when we know how many will be at the event. Look for a post in a new thread then.

We should encourage everyone to bring push brooms and if all possible, a few gas powered leaf blowers would really help speed the clean up process...

I moseyed up there at lunchtime and, like they say, the lot is huge! Not nearly as bad as I feared (and I have to admit to dodging a couple of imaginary cones as I speeded across the lot). Should be fun. We will bring brooms!
