View Full Version : Good body/paint shop needed

My beloved 1992 Miata got hit by an elderly driver and needs the passenger door and side repainted. This is the other driver's fault - we both have the same insurance company.

The car is factory "Sunburst Yellow." It's a single-stage paint with no clear coat. (The car is in excellent shape with 40K miles - it's a garage princess.)

I'm trying to find a body shop who will match the factory paint. Most shops want to do a clear coat top and I'm told the new and factory paint will fade very differently - within three years, I'll have a two-tone car.

Can anyone do a single-stage paint job to match over time?

Any suggestions, ideally near Boulder?
(If anyone has relevant knowledge on this, I'm eager to learn more)

Thanks in advance,
Geremy

I don't know if either of these places can do what you want, but I can say that they do good work. Most recently I had my '99 Audi at Hatch's Auto Body (NW corner of Santa Fe & Evans - 303 777-2677) in Denver. They did a great job matching my 130K 7yr old factory paint (it is in good condition). A number of years ago (maybe 6 or 7) my roomate's jeep grand cherokee (a late '90s model with <100K) got worked on at Midwest Auto Body (116 1/2 S Main St - 303-772-4328) in Longmont. These are the only two I've actually had work on vehicles so they are the only ones I can recommend. In both case I have had to go back, but only for minor things and in both case they were handled quickly and to my satisfaction.

Best of luck.

Colorado Coach on Valmont is one of the best in the Boulder area. I'm sure they could probably do what you're asking. Give 'em a call...

My MR2 is at AB&T in Commerce city right now. They're also restoring my '72 Capri. They do outstanding work and are just good people if that's worth anything to you. They can bang on sheet metal like I've never seen anyone do before. They use very little filler after they've done the hammer work. Just real good quality work and won't take advantage of you. They're just as honest as the day is long.

Take care,

Ed
