We are still in need for instructors AND STUDENTS for the 11 August Street Survival School. I'm sure alot of you have neighbors and co-workers with teenaged drivers in their families. Please let them know about Street Survival and encourage their participation. They can go to www.streetsurvival.org (http://www.streetsurvival.org) to learn about the program and register, or they are welcomed to contact me by emailing arniecoleman@comcast.net or phoning 719-310-8281. It's getting late. We need to see more registrations NOW to consider going ahead with the school.
We also only have about half the required number of instructors as we should. You do not need to be a "top-level" competitor to instruct. The vehicle dymanics principals and techniques we will be teaching are basic things that anyone who's been driving competitively for any length of time will know.
Instructors will set up driving exercises and coach students to attain the Street Survival objectives for those exercises. School Staff will assist with administrative and logistical activities (registration, traffic control, cone shagging, lane change exercise "control", etc.) throughout the day.
Lunch will be provided for Students, Instructors and Staff. Street Survival shirts will be provided for Instructors and Staff.
Street Survival is about driving safety, not performance or competitive driving, so those of us with performance or competition driving/instructing experience will need to re-focus our knowledge and skills to help students learn accident avoidance and emergency maneuver techniques, rather than "the fastest way around the track". Because the Street Survival program has specific objectives, processes and technques, we will be conducting instructor training prior to the event. We will cover teaching objectives, exercise objectives, and event operations. The "planned" date for this training is Thursday, 9 Aug, in the early evening, at a location to be determined. As many of you as possible should plan to attend this training.
This Street Survival school will be the first ever conducted by the SCCA under authority of the BMW CCA Foundation, the originators of the program. There will be National Office representation at this "kick-off" event, and we can certainly anticipate coverage in Sports Car magazine. We will be setting the bar for the rest of the Regions, and becoming part of SCCA history!
I'll need to have the team established soon so there is time to order the shirts. Please reply ASAP.

Feel free to post or e-mail your questions as well.
Thank you for your participation in this worthwhile community service program.
