I would like to know if I would stay in the same class (which is FSP) with a strut bar in the rear, short throw shifter and a cat back system?

You can actually run STS, SM, SM2, and a handful of other crazier classes with those mods as well. Here's a quick list of some other things you could do to your Protege besides the ones you've mentioned and STILL run FSP if that's your plan.... lightweight wheels of whatever size that fits, Rcompound tires, shocks/springs or coilovers, intake, headers, race seats, A/C removed, front/rear swaybars, pads/rotors, and I think you can remove emissions maybe? Tons of other little things.
