Right now I am using Google Reader to look at the RM Solo feed, although I haven't yet convinced myself that there is any advantage to doing this. I have only just started, so I don't have any history yet, but it seems like it will show me the threads where there are new posts, but only shows me the start of the thread. The results is that I see there is at least one new post, but I don't really have any direct clue that the new post(s) is(are) of interest.

Anyone have experience with Google Reader?

Is my impression correct, or can I get more information on what has been added to a thread? I think I'd like it better if under the thread heading it showed some information on each posting and let me click on postings individually. For instance, there are some people who often have interesting things to say. If I saw that they had posted a message I'd be more interested in reading it.

Currently, the RSS feed that the forum software creates will only show you new threads, not necessarily new posts (i.e., the top thread will always be the most recently created thread, not the one with the most recently added post). I'm not very happy with that setup, so I'm planning to add another version of the feed that mirrors the "daily posts" output (you can see what that looks like by choosing it from the "quick links" menu, or following this link:

http://www.rmsolo.org/forums/search.php?do=getdaily

)

The new feed will be much more like what you're looking for, but won't be implemented for at least a week or so.

Kevin,

Thanks for your reply way back on 1/20. I know there have been further discussions on forum questions. Do you have any feeling for if/when the "daily posts" output you talked about might show up? That would be perfect for me, or I think it would.

What I fantasize getting is a daily digest in HTML format so that the lists of posts at the top would be live. I could click on an entry and jump directly to that post. I can dream... I don't really need this, it would just be nice.

Thanks,

Peter

Peter,

What I suggested to Bob Klingler may be what you are looking for too. If you are logged in and use the link at the top called New Posts, or just click on the following bookmark "http://www.rmsolo.org/forums/search.php?do=getnew", you see a list of posts since you last visited. When you have read all you want, you can clear all the other posts by using the "Mark Forums Read" option under "Quick Links" at the top. Very easy way to catch up on discussions, much quicker than scanning the old digests.
