Any woodworkers in the group?
I would (I think) like to make wood brackets to go around the eMange and place it in the open slot under the radio to allow acces to the switches and USB port. The case is flat on three sides and slightly arched on the top. A front and rear wooden mount should hold it nicely and be somewhat easy to fab if you have a bandsaw and whatever the doohickey is that has all the moveable pins to allow you to trace a contour.
Any volunteers?
Other options?

Try Alreco for aluminum if you decide to go this way (aluminum that is). They have a ton of funky stuff. Even to make a day out of exploring their lot is worth while. Don't know much about wood in race cars because I would never use it.

My light pod HID coil packs needed to be stuff someplace. I used T brackets I found at homedepot, long bolts, and just clamped them up against the pod.

OK, Chris, just tell me what you need, take a picture with measurements and I will fabricate the mounting brackets. If you have time, you could drive to my work, I'll show you some cool planes and we can then do it there.

Under the radio is just a little to short (front to back) Anyone know how to get the radio out of a Miata? I think there must be a tool that slide in the little slots on either side. If I am not crazy anyone have one or know how to make one?
I am hoping the top slot has an extra inch or so of depth. eManage Ultimate on top behind a blanking plate, radio moves to the bottom. Don't all real race cars have radios and A/C ?:)

Chris, is that an aftermarket HU? If so, I'd wager it's just friction/wedged in there. My aftermarket is. Otherwise, take the side panels off from the footwells, and that's where you should be able to the mounting screws, if there are any.

A little work and removal of an offending support and it fits like a charm.
Now you see it

Um, most radios in most older Japanese cars that utilize DIN standards are mounted within a metal bracket that supports the sides of the head unit casing. This is referred to as ISO mounting.
There are typically two phillips or hexhead machine screws that bolt an ISO DIN unit firmly in place. To access these fasteners, removal of the trim pieces around the radio is typically required, which then allows you to remove the entire bracket to which the radio is mounted.
If your aftermarket radio was just "wedged" in place, it was a hack job.
