Howdy!

You may have noticed I took the collected advice of the majority, and picked up an '04 STi recently. I slapped on the Tein Flex coilovers I had on the WRX, as well as my 17x8 wheels and muscle car tall tires (245-45-17). Other than that the car is all stock.

So, what should I do next? What should I ask Santa to put in my stocking? What are the best/easiest/cheapest STU legal mods (bonus points for all three)? Exhaust bits that remove some cats?

Thanks!
Gary

Yeah I think Mr. Thomas's graphics gave him the 8 hundredths he needed to beat me at the last event. Those are damn cool.

Something like this what you're thinking of, Roger?

I'm truly clueless. I just like to drive. :)

Yes and no.. I like Helix, their stuff is inexpensive and great quality, but they offer a downpipe with a high-flow metallic substrate catalytic converter, that will keep you emissions legal... http://www.gruppe-s.com/Subaru/subex/HelixDownpipe.htm - rallysport lists it as an option on their Invidia exhaust - looks like the N1 midpipe includes the resonator... http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop/invidia-wrxsti-turbo-back-exhaust-p-473.html

The full open exhaust is pretty loud and "drones".. I notice that both the Helix and Invidia include a resonator in the center section that should reduce noise. If you want a quieter ride, most people mate the downpipe with the Borla Hush cat-back. - plus you get a dual tip exhaust instead of a potato-launcher!! ; ) http://www.gruppe-s.com/Subaru/subex/borlahush.htm

Oh.. and just in case you wanted the "swoosh".. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUBARU-WRX-IMPREZA-SIDE-GRAPHICS-DECALS-VINYL-RALLY-STI_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ50449QQihZ001QQitem Z110054624761QQrdZ1

Thanks Roger. I'll look at all that stuff.

Anyone try this one?

That's a great deal!! - Oakos is known to be a good vendor.... first I notice the RFL "Really Freakin Loud" disclaimer, also, it doesn't say if it's Stainless or Mild steel, and if it's stainless - what grade stainless, and does that include stainless or mild steel flanges??
This one come's with a muffler to quieten it down a little.. you can always have your muffler shop add a magnaflow resonator later, if it's too loud... http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=355&Product_Code=TXSTBE&Category_Code=3220

If you're looking for a tbe right now, I would suggest going to a local shop to have it done. There are a couple of shops in Denver that I haven't heard any complaints about.

Oh, if you reall want good decals: www.radecalstyling.com

Wasn't there a story in a recent Sports Car on prepping a Suby winner for ST*?

I believe that was an EVO story.

Regardless, you've changed cars like once a year. Do you plan on sticking with this one? :p

Gary,

Let me preface this with... I know very little about Subarus, other than they are very fast, but don't have a very pleasant sound at full song

There have been at least a couple of nationally competitive Subarus listed for sale on www.sccaforums.com that you could check out for their modification list. That may give you some additional ideas for parts suppliers, and also some contact names in other parts of the country.

STU would be fun, but as some friends of mine like to say, "I'm already pot-committed" to STX. Let's hope we have a place to play next year, or our winter plans and projects may be moot.

Congrats on the STi,

I would say that a great mod would be Sway bars and endlinks.

As far as a Turbo back system, I would have to give a Giant Thumbs up to Buds Muffler off I-25 and Santa Fe.

See you in a few days!!
