Since most of you know next to nothing about me, and I never seem to meet more than one or two new people per event, I figured I would get this out there the easy way!

When I am not doing registration stuff for SCCA, I am VERY busy planning and raising money for an annual VW and Audi car show called Dubs Along the Rockies. Last year we added an autocross (open to anyone in any car) to our list of events and it was a very fun course with lots of cool people tearing it up. This year for our 5th anniversary we decided to get a little crazier than normal. We are going to do a 3 session autocross with 3 different courses, spread over 2 days, and that will include a NIGHT session on Saturday evening! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that everyone will be getting FIVE RUNS PER SESSION!!!!!:eek::eek:

SCR Perforamnce is also going to offer some private instruction betwen the Saturday sessions for those who would like a little advice on how to shave a few more tenths off their times. This will only be open to 10 people, so if you want to get in on that, pay attention so that when we announce the registration being open you can jump on it!

The prices will be as follows:

Complete 3 session series - $75, trophies for 1st and 2nd per class and one for best raw time.

Individual Sessions - $35 per session, not competing for trophies

Driving Instruction - $40 for 3 runs with crituque between each run. This wil take place on Saturday between the morning and evening session.

The dates of this event are going to be the 24th and 25th of June at World Arena, and I expect to have the registration open on the 1st of March.

On top of the car show and autocross we are also going to be doing an R/C car autocross, slow drags (last one there wins), a swap meet, and our usual HUGE raffle that willhave thousands of dollars worth of seriously cool stuff... oh and we will be raffling off a car too!

Curious if "World Arena", "Night", and "Sound" have come up in the same sentence yet? I think the EP Honda would piss off a few folks after dark, I'm fairly certain it does in my neighborhood when it goes on the trailer the night before an event

Yes, yes and yes... I am working on the permits next week!

Any restrictions on "extra lighting" mounted on the vehicle?

Who's going to be doing the instructing?

Mark Baer and SCR Performance will be providing the instructors. (From what I understand)

Will you guys be using NASA classing again this year?

Im so there. That was the one of the funnest times Ive had autocrossing last year at 2005's. I think you should use SCCA classing and make an equally fun course.

No, that was too much of a PITA... PPSCC uses a class system very similar to the SCCA stuff, and we are just going to use their normal stuff.

make an equally fun course.

We are using the same course designer for 2006 as we did for 2005. Hopefully he comes up with a good one this time.

Good. I didn't want to be Mr. Negative, but things aren't right when an FP car ends up in the same class as an STS car. :)

That's great news. The course last year was very excellent!

Your special event does sound like fun to a lot of us, because it is different. But I only hope that you are hearing the concerns of the few posts by those of us who are thinking beyond this one event; those that fear the potential rath of the neighbors who are now are tolerating our form of fun, even though they may not like the noise associated with it. CDR and PPSCC has attempted to coexist with our neighbors at WA, by voluntarily limiting out sound levels. But now, it seems that you are proposing to potentially disrupt their quiet evening at home, and give them an additional reason to protest.

I hope you and your club are not just concerned with the legal permits which you might be able to obtain from the City. Please, please also consider how awful it will feel if the end result of your event might be the permanent loss of our only remaining autoX site in Colorado Springs. :o

I discussed this very thing with the police dept. today and explained to them what we were looking at. I told them that we would be enforcing the same standards as any other race that takes place there, and he told me that at some point they actually had an officer take sound measurements from the street at an autocross (last year) and it was measured at between 45 and 59dB. The legal limit is 55dB after 7pm so he does not see there being any issue especially is we design the course to either keep people out of the throttle when they are close to Venetucci or just push it back away from the street an extra 100 feet or so to comepensate for the sound travelling better at night.

As far as the permit goes, that is the easy part. We also have to pay for an officer to be on site the entire time ($25 per hour and 2 hour minimum) to monitor the sound levels. I also asked what part that officer would play if there was a problem. He told me that as long as we are within the legal limits and the officer had the sound meter to prove it than the complaints would basically be noted and nothing would happen.

The 55dB limit is measure 25 feet beyond the property line ad I really do not think it will be an issue. For anyone who wants to read up on the whole noise enforecemtn thing, here is the website I used: http://www.nonoise.org/lawlib/cities/co/cosprings_co.htm

I am also considering finding myself a "loud" car and going out there to do some sound measurements at night just to make sure we will be ok a few weeks ahead of time.... anyone want to volunteer?

Well, after a week of phone calls and frustrating email covnersations, the fight is over.... :(

The bottm line is that due to a written agreement between the Stratmoor Hills HOA and World Arena and a problem with insurance coverage, we will NOT be doing a night autocross session at Dubs Along the Rockies this year. http://www.vortexmediagroup.com/images/banghead.gif

We will still be doing 2 sessions with private instruction on Saturday afternoon provided by SCR Performance, but the night session is dead a buried unfortunately.

The prices are being adjusted as follows:

2 session series: $45 total (no I am not kidding)
Or $35 for one day or the other individually (and not eligible for trophies)

The driving instruction is going to be $40 for 3 runs, and this will only be open to a MAXIMUM of 15 drivers so sign up early!

Mark your calendars... June 24th and 25th is the date

Oh yeah, I forgot one thing!

We are also gonig to be doing a remote control car race too, so if you do not want to bring out your real race car, we invite you to come try your hand at the miniature version! There are several details still to be worked out on that front but if you are interested I will be providing the details as I get them.
