It's time for new tires on the Bimmer (2k M Coupe). All the guys at work belong to the church of Michelin and run PS2's on their cars. I have first-hand with these tires and think they are the best street tires I've ever driven. However, they are rated #2 by Tire Rack behind the Potenza RE050A's (in every category). I've never driven these more than a couple miles at a time, though I see them on a fair # of cars that come into the shop.
Anyone out there had/have the Potenzas and care to give input?
thanks,
joe...

the PS2's are GREAT street tires, driven in a couple of BMW's with them on, and they felt great... But... I've had great experience relying on the TireRack instrumented tests... If they' say they're better, I'd buy that - I think you've got to be the one to try them and convert all those PS2 folks over to the church of 050!!

The tire rack's instrumented tests are nice and all, but how often do you drive at 10/10ths on the street? If you do it 100% of the time, and you measure your commute to work by the tenth of a second, my hat's off to you, but I tend to think that longevity and refinement are also things to consider...
If you are looking for an autocross street tire though, ultimate grip does matter- don't overlook the Yokohama Advan Neovas. They are the stickiest damn things this side of an R-compound, and they are not too shabby in the wet.
BUT, if you only need a UHP street tire, I'd buy a set of Goodyear Eagle F1GSD3's. They grip well, yet the compound seems to be much longer wearing then most UHP tires...And they will beat anything in the wet.
There's my prejudices, biases, and half-baked views for ya.
