We need more safety stewards. You can be one too, just attend the school and shadow a safety steward for two events, and send your application to SCCA. Just have to do it a couple times a year to stay current, costs nothing but your time.

I would like to add to Jeff's invite to join the Solo Safety Program ...

Being part of the Safety program is challenging, fun, and rewarding. You are able to contribute to the success of our events in a very meaningful way, and you get to wear a yellow vest!

What we are looking for are folks to serve as individual heat Safety Stewards for both Continental Divide and Colorado Regions. (Josh Hadler is our Divisional Steward, and Dan Hackett and I are Regional or Event Stewards). Although you may grow to become a Regional Steward, or even take over for one of us from time to time, this is not that big of a committment at first.

You DO have a big responsibility during the heat that you are assigned to work, but it is not an all-day type of assignment. And we usually have two stewards working every heat, so your responsibility is sort of shared.

The SCCA Solo Rulebook (http://scca.com/_filelibrary/File/2006_solo_rules.pdf)has some very detailed info about the safety program (Sect 4.1), and the SCCA web site also has lots of good info at the "forms" page (http://scca.com/Solo/Index.asp?IdS=001AD3-CC1B140&x=050|068&~=).

One of these forms is called "What is a Solo Safety Steward", and it tells you just about all you might need to know about your future assignment. I suppose you could also just plan to attend the "school" at the Mini Convention, but at least this would get you a head start to find out if it is what you might want to do.

(Some of the info only pertains to the Event Steward, so don't let the "event planning" descriptions, etc, scare you off.)

Feel free to ask any questions in the meantime, and I hope there is lots of interest!

Aloha,

The Solo Safety Steward training at 2pm is not just for those who want to become a safety steward. It’s a refresher course for existing Solo Safety Stewards. This particular Solo Safety Steward training will be including our very own Divisional Solo Safety Steward, (Josh Hadler) with some new information for all Solo Safety Stewards. If you’re currently a licensed Solo Safety Steward then you are requested to join us in the fun filled event.

Location: Room C (verify at registration)

Is it too late to attend the mini convention? I would like to go to the safety steward school. The cutoff date on the registration form was the 15th

It was disappointing to me that there was nobody from CDR at the safety training.

If you were not able to make the training session, but are interested in becoming a Safey Steward, e-mail me, and I'll set up a training session here in the Springs.

Safety Steward candidates should have a couple seasons experience, be mature, assertive, responsible, of high integrity and be a good communicator.

Just a reminder to those that attended the safety training at the mini convention ...

You still need to work 2 events working alongside a licensed Safety Steward to complete your training. I think it would be a good idea to work one event at Mt. Elbert, and the other event at World Arena.

Ideally, you would work alongside the Chief of Safety starting in the morning during course review and also work a regular heat assignment with either the chief again or one of the heat stewards.

Whenever you are ready for this, put a special note on your on-line registration form that you are ready to do this. You may even be able to edit your registration for the upcoming event.

Thank you very much for your help. I'm sure you'll find it fun and rewarding!

Thanks for the note, Paul.

I edited my registration and chose the Safety option, with a note explaining my DSS status.

I've also changed my registration to reflect a safety assignment, and was planning on tagging along with Mr. Hackett.

It's up to Dan, but he may only be able to accomodate one tagalonger per event.

I am flexible to share with whoever wants to join-in the safety walk.
