It's that time again! Post here if you're fairly confident in your availability and ability to participate.

If you think you might be interested in becoming an instructor and want more information . . .

The school teaches inexperienced teen drivers the basics of vehicle dynamics, car control and collision avoidance, so a basic understanding of car control techniques is useful. Driving exercises include a figure eight skid pad, emergency lane change and a slalom-like obstacle avoidance course. Throttle steering and skid recovery are basic exercises students will practice, so some experience at these is also helpful.

It's similar to an autocross school, except that speed is not a consideration. How fast the student gets through the exercise is not important. It's their ability to control the car that we're concerned with. Cars travel just fast enough to achieve the desired effects through the exercises.

We'll hold an instructor training session the night before the school, and instructors will have an opportunity to get some practice on the exercises while the students are in the classroom.

Bottom line, if you've been autocrosing for even a little while, it shouldn't be too difficult to turn you into a Street Survival instructor!

Our usual drill is to send about a half dozen coaches (depending on student count) up on Saturday afternoon, conduct coaches training at Saturday nite dinner (no charge to you), stay at the Inn at Riverwalk in Edwards overnite (again, no charge to you), teach on Sunday, grab a quick dinner in Eagle then head for home.

Our coaches will be augmented by coaches from the local area. They'll attend the Saturday nite training, and new coaches will get behind the wheel training on the exercises during the classroom portion of the school on Sunday.

One thing about this school will be different . . .

. . . due to a relatively low student count, we will be allowing adults to attend!

Put me down as tentative. I'm not sure yet if I'll be in town or not.

I don't think I can make this one, but I did enjoy volunteering before and will help at some future classes. :)

Should be able to help (as instructor or cone chaser or other help as needed) if I can bring a dog with me (dog-sitting for a friend that weekend) or make other arrangement for the dog. Let me know what you need Arnie!

The dog might be a problem at the hotel and airport. It would be best if you can make some other arrangements.

Hoep it works out. We can use your help!

If Amanda is willing to help set up and chase cones, and you can share a room, her expenses will be covered.

I'm about 90% sure I'll be able to make it now.

Going up on Sunday morning so I won't need a room.

I was going to have her sleep in the car. Now she'll be REAL excited!

Are you up for hauling cones etc. in your truck, or should we dust off the Solo truck?

I will be there for sure. I will need a ride, though, and possibly a room as well. I will be in contact with Sal or Cory for those details.

Will find out tomorrow about alternate dog care. I will let you know as soon as I know, but if I do make it, I was planning to just drive up Sun morning. However depending on what time things start a hotel might not be a bad idea, but bigger hassle with alternate dog car. Will keep you in the loop.

Must get radar detector in new car first ;) I don't need another ticket and this car cruises really fast in 6th.

Mike,

It's really important to attend the instructor training Saturday night if at all possible, but if you can't I'll understand.

EDIT . . .

FYI . . .

We are at 15 students so far, we'll probably have close to 20, and as it turns out, we probably won't have any adult students . . .

Got it. Looks like I will be able to head up Sat afternoon. What hotel should I make a reservation at? What time do I need to be there by on Sat? What else do I need to know (before hand) that I haven't asked?

I will make hotel reservations for everyone (at the Inn at Riverwalk in Edwards, CO).

The training session and dinner are at 6:00 PM. We'll meet in the hotel lobby about 5:45 to go to dinner.

I'll be emailing you an Instructor's Guide to review before the weekend.

Let me talk to my wife tonight. I'd like her to do one of these but she's been resisting for a while now. If I can talk her into coming (would help if Tiff came, AL!!! ;) ), I'd like to give a hand at instructing. I do have a little bit of experience in car control :D I'll chime back in later tonight.

Kubo,

The instructor list is set for this weekend, but if somebody bails, we could need your help.

Eagle Street Survival schools are less of a "pick up game" than our local schools/events/activities. It's problematic to change plans late in the game. There's a fair amount of pre-coordination that goes on between myself and our sponsors in Eagle. Stuff like hotel, lunch and dinner arrangements. (We're only allowed a certain number of free rooms which changes from school to school depending on how many students and local instructors are signed up). Late adds/deletes perterbate that process and make extra work for the folks that are "paying the bills" for this school, so we try to avoid them when we can.

All of this is to try to explain that we really do appreciate your volunteering, but we have enough instructors already signed up for the expected student load, and unless an unforseen vacancy occurs, we probably won't be able to utilize your talents this time. (Argh . . . I really hate having to turn volunteers away!)

Please try again next time!

. . . will be at the Main Street Grill, around the corner from the hotel. Linda has asked that we arrive at 5:30, so let's meet in the lobby at 5:25.
