Just a feeler to see if there's interest.

If RMSolo.org offered a "store" where you could purchase RMSolo/autocross related items, would you buy anything? T-shirts, hats, water bottles, license plate frames, underpants, etc.

...and I bet you all think I'm kidding about the "underpants" thing...

Randy,

Appreciate your looking for fresh ways to do things. :)

I would prefer to have items available for purchase at events.
We have many (all?) of the stickers needed for National events in the CDR trailer.
Just need someone to get them out and sell them.
Maybe part of registration duties?
(Just a starting place for discussion.)
We could add items such as you suggest.

I'd also like to see the Region Logo stickers and Division stickers for sale.

I would think from a financial standpoint, having the virtual store would be a better idea. Selling stuff at events would be convenient but it would take ordering a huge inventory with an initial investment and then hoping you sell everything. With the virtual store, things could be made and shipped by a third party as they are bought, which significantly reduces the risk.

What Dylan said.

Having gone through the inventory "problem" with a different club, going virtual is the only way to go.

I voted no because every time I've been a part of a website that wants to do merch, the merch always looks like someone used a website's automatic text to image or they drew the design in MS Paint (like 99% of the stuff on cafepress). Nothing I'd want to wear/have on my car. Sad but true.

If the RMSolo stuff was of a high caliber (not sure what kind of graphic design talent is within our community, then I may be interested. But I also know we have a wide range of ages tastes, and what some might like and others like won't be close.

But I also know we have a wide range of ages tastes, and what some might like and others like won't be close. If we end up offering these products, we'll do a quality check on 'em first. Clay Turner, who has provided designs for our Nationals T-shirts for many years, is a Creative Director, and I have a bachelor's in graphic design myself. Clay designed the logo for the "new website" look, and I used his palette and basic direction in resurfacing rmsolo.org. We are both irritatingly fussy about quality and detail. For example, I'd be surprised if anyone noticed, but all the "black" on this website isn't really "black" - it's "dark." That's the kinda stuff we do.

The last thing that RMSolo wants to do is offer substandard products to our members! We're in the initial phases of exploring this opportunity. We're not in a position where we can maintain an inventory, so a solution like CafePress is what we're looking into. We certainly have the talent in the organization to produce artwork that is optimized to get the most out of what CafePress can offer. If CafePress can't make it into a product we can be proud of, we're not going to offer it!

Snell Rated Beer Hat! But seriously, I think this is a great idea just for shirts, hats, decals, etc.
