You may have heard the news that the poles between the old A and B sections of Mt Elbert are gone. This is true. You may have also heard the crossover areas are much harder between the old B and C, you would also be correct. It's VERY likely we'll paddock in the middle of the lot, and use the entire area of the old A & B (now called A), as the course area.

This is actually very similiar the the setup we had a coors field a few years ago, where we would have long thin courses. I thought it would be interesting to show them on the same scale to compare the two.

The area outlined in red is the coors field we used for just course, it is placed at the top most possible usable area on the new layout at Mt Elbert. The green extension shows the roughly 25% more usable width. The lengths are rougthly the same.

Of course we get much more paddock space, not to mension the old E and F bays are open (now called D), for warm up courses or other stuff. And we can use areas of (now called B), to stage and grid, and run out from the course. Not to mension the surface is soooo nice.

That's terrific news, and looks like it will work really nice for the Tour and killer Pro courses!

Nice.

I think the extra width (compared to Coors), will allow some north/south features, as well, as compared to Coors which only allowed down and back.

I still prefer the old DIA layout, as it allowed for more course variation.

Maybe but the poles were a pain in the $#%@#$, Lawrence Edwards, Tom Pora, myself and others will tell you about it. And really it'll be more open in some regards.

I like it.

Do you think course designers will be able to build even longer courses with the new layout of the lot, as in constant 80-110 second runs. Our 60+ second runs are great especially when you look at some regions that only average 30-45 second run times!!

If so I think that would give the denver region a great draw for out of state drivers and be awesome for the Nat Tour.

Any Idea if any more Pro Solo events will be coming to denver in the future?

See you all sunday!!

I'm guessing that we've seen the last of 80+ second courses, unless they are *really* tight. I'm sure Michael will dream up some interesting stuff for us regardless of how long the runs are.

Course times will be roughly the same, but we won't have to contend with poles.

We don't have the equipment to run our own pro solo events, so the only pro solo you'll see this year is in July.

Regarding killer tour's and pro's though, this year should be one of the best paired events of the year, make sure your an SCCA member, and don't miss those two July events.

Well coming up with some course designs have been rather interesting. My goal is try and have different features for every event. Unforunately this new lot layout, will have some similar attributes to coors field. Meaning going down, with a big turn-around and coming back. Not all courses will be like this, but there will be a few with that type of theme.

I have come up with about 5 different designs for the next few events. The first two events on the reconfigured lot (last winter events) will be generic (not a part of generic-racing) and simple...with nothing to complex. But! The first SEASON event is an amazing course. With named features and all :D

The only thing I would like to see enforced with the new lot layout, is that we restrict cross-overs from anyplace but the FIRST 20% of the course, anywhere else on the course, and it REALLY slows down an event!!

There won't be any crossovers at all, except for maybe the start or the after the finish.

The exit and entrance into the lot will be between the barrier poles (fitting description, especially if you see these things).

There may be a loop'i'di'loop or something to make things creative. But thats all I'm revealing :)

Yep,

Nice to no longer have to worry about the poles, However they were handy to lean on during some of those 1-2 hour Heats as a worker!!
